Alekela cringed again. She made a mental note to correct the computer. It was not quite as bad but it lacked the nuances. She sighed a little. It was something she was still trying to get used to. Academy, medical, and training, she still felt out of place a lot of the time.

"Well, here I am getting ready for taking care of probable casualties already! It seems I got transferred onto the Sutherland just as this ship and many others are headed back to the starbase and a fight to retake it and not only that but as the chief medical officer! I will have to let my mentor know. While it maybe only temporary it is something that I cherish.

I always liked to be busy, but this was a real jump off the cliff on untried wings. I always remember my teacher reminding me that the ground was a harsh mistress. And yes, I learned that lesson probably even more so than others. I loved to fly, just for the joy of it and got formal lessons in water dancing and singing. But, I digress.

My mind cannot wind down. It is active and I could not help but as we all await the inevitable casualties to scribble and doodle.

Maybe because there is a battle looming my mind has turned to thinking about such things.

We have our torpedoes and phasers and shields. Shields especially.

Imagine if you can rolling a ball up a hill. If you do not have enough energy the ball will never make it over the hill. However, quantum mechanics as we learned do not work like classical objects. They exhibit wave like behaviour. In quantum physics, a wave function moving toward a barrier is a probability function. A function of the probability of finding the particle on the other side of the barrier. While most of the wave might be reflected there is due to probability function an amount that will find its way past. This is what is known as quantum tunnelling.

A phaser, disruptor or in reality any thing dealing with energy coming against the shields will have a probability of a little coming through each time. It is one reason for modulation but that is a thought experiment for another time.

I got to thinking, If you could bind a stream of polarons into a bipolaron state in such a way that they do not collapse then the wave function of anything they encounter will be forced into a Bose-Einstein like condensate state, or basically the lowest quantum state possible.

Thus, it would increase the probability function of the wave that more would pass....

Why am I writing this?

A'ksu, the word pops into my head again. In Akkadian it means dangerous.
I have heard that word whispered behind my back for far too long and perhaps the Mothers were correct. The A'ksu nearly destroyed our world, brilliant they were it is written, but they had no forethought. They did not see the consequences of their actions and it is said, they did not care. I am thinking that is why I was assigned to House Meaho'ōla by the Council. It is now a minor house and it kept me far away from places like House Warraquim though I did spend time there.
I think they were afraid, and maybe with good reason. It was at Warraquim that I learned that they still feared those that demonstrated the trait. In the past it was called A'burab'atu, it means to do something quickly or fleetingly. It was because they seemed to be able to take seemingly diverse bits of data and thoughts and come up with something new. The trait could be inherited and the writings indicate we went on a breeding programme for the trait. As such we advanced far and fast, too fast, faster than was prudent. So now the trait when it appears, is frowned upon and watched. As for what was invented, well every child is taught: 'We put away the past in order to preserve the future.'

Well I have rambled on long enough, perhaps I should just go recount medical supplies again. Something mundane to get my mind from thinking too far afield and with dangerous thoughts.
