Thinking on the way to battle...

“Commander’s personal log. We are on our way to the engagement point. While I am extremely proud of the crew and the preparations that they are making I cannot help the nervousness that has illogically found its home inside my soul.” Hades said as he picked up the tea from his replicator inside his ready room. He sighed as he walked back to his chair and sat down. “I can’t help but wonder what we will find. While I know that I have to send Carolyn and Franklin and a few others on the away teams I would rather be there myself. Command, I am finding, has both its draw backs and its rewards.”
He sipped his tea taking a moment to blow across the cup to help cool it. “I have to say that this has been a surprising time. In addition to seeing Gypsy and Rain the latter of which is my Chief Engineer I have come across Tass Hay and even T’Mira is back.”
He let the truth of the words wrap around him. “I have to admit I am glad to see them, something I would not admit to them … well except T’Mira. I am always glad to see her. Seeing her and Isaiah together gives me hope for Kalani and me. Their meeting wasn’t exactly under the best of circumstances yet they were able to form a bond that is unshakable and will not easily be broken. Of course since Isaiah is half Vulcan and T’Mira is full Vulcan their marriage was accepted by Vulcan right away.
“I can only imagine how difficult it will be for them to be apart, he on the Starbase and she on the Victory.” He thought about himself and Kalani.
“Of course it will be easier for me and Kalani as we are assigned to the same station. In a sense while they had more support for their union they have less for keeping it going. I don’t have any doubt that they will survive.”
He smiled a little. “I must say it is odd for me to be in a reflective mood. I am rarely sentimental but the appearance of so many people who can both boost me up and destroy me has been an interesting happening.”
He through a bit about the station. “I must say I am worried about Splendora. I have reviewed the latest scans and it will not be long until she is in full genetic sequence activation. She is a friend and I want to see her rise above this. She was the first person I opened up to and the only one I really feel completely comfortable baring my soul to. In the last months she too has taken me into her confidence and the pressure she puts on herself is extreme.”
Hades took another sip of his tea. “Enough about that. The ship. I must admit to being thrilled to have a ship of my own to command. I find that in giving me this honour Admiral Bremer has, unknowingly, granted my heart’s secret ambition. I have always wanted a command and not just any but of a medical ship.” He chuckled.
“I have to laugh because when he first told me I wanted to do a dance but fear of him seeing me as insane and then taking the command away kept me at my most logical. I did, however, do said happy dance while in the turbo lift on the way to sickbay. I figured nobody was watching and that was a good thing. I picture myself looking as awkward as a rhino.”
He smiled and sipped his tea. “But seriously this mission will not be easy. I hope that we are in time to save a lot of people. My team is ready and they are a good team. Speaking of teams we have recently added a Head Nurse. Franklin seems like a competent man and he is also doing what every doctor should do, start out as a nurse. I think that if they did they would understand how much truly the nurses do.”
He sighed, “I have had my share of head butting with the nurses but I do respect them…perhaps even Lynn.”
He smiled, “I will, however, not admit that to anyone. I just wish Lynn was a little better at not gossiping and perhaps if she was nicer to Kalani. Something doesn't feel right there. I will have to look into it later.”
He scratched his chin. “Well, the time draws near for us to arrive at our destination. Computer. End log.”
He waited for the computer to chirp indicating that the log was closed and saved. He polished off the rest of his tea and then headed back to the bridge to take his chair.
