The 3AM "I Must Create!", and ramble.

552 words; about a 3 minute read

When Jaca snapped awake out of a deep sleep, eyes burning with the ideas that pushed through her dreams, she at least managed enough presence of mind to not put her work boots on right away as to not wake her friend or her son at this late hour. Once she was in the forge room, boots were on over her billowy pajama pants.

"Computer, personal log", she said as the computer chirped obligingly.

"Looking at the starting receipts for the day, put puzzle box crafting over to custom orders. Double the number of nevercold brass spun wire hairpins. The dancing bees design looks like a hit with the Betazecatl.", Jaca said as she pulled out a sketch pad and charcoal, then sighed, "If only the Federation was allowing throbbing amber, we'd have lines going down the Promenade."

She began sketching, making notes in the pictograms of her people, "Storyboxes seem the best option, but that now opens the challenge of what stories? I'm already limited by materials which cuts down on story choices. So there goes 'The Elders Break Through the Bounds'" She paused briefly in thought, "That might be for the best though. Wisdom of Bees is an option, so's Lucifii Speaks The Way."

Jaca frowned in thought, "I do have the option of Linefounder's memories as stories. There's 'This Hemlock is Tasty, Have Some' and 'This Acid Shower is Invigorating'...or there's.." She trailed off, setting down her sketchbook. "No..I can't do 'Toys Break'. That's...let that one be private. I asked the Linefounder many things when Father said I had to consult with her first before permission to leave home was given...and I know her perspective is not like ours. That's how it is with the Elders. Living in Flesh, no matter how many lifetimes they have, is still a strangeness to them. We understood that and crafted the Dreaming Cathedral for them to finally have peace and eternally dream." Jaca sighed, "Even with Lucifii's Wisdom, outsiders are still toys...toys that break easily if they are played with."

She sighed again and ran a hand through her hair, "I keep hearing..seeing that in my mind ever since I first left home. As much as I keep advising to Live Deliciously, on this aspect...I am a hypocrite. I have argued with myself, compared to the Elders, I'm not much different than an outsider. I would have to choose to break an outsider like a toy. I have questions that I'm not even sure how to ask theoretically much less for purpose. We've kept to ourselves because Toys Break, so other than friendships...that's it. For them, death isn't another beginning...or at least not like it is with us. Physically, we will fit together deliciously, but can we bear children? If we can, who's lineage will they favor, or will they be a new chapter for our peoples?"

Jaca noted the chronometer, "I need to think more on this...best way to do that is Create. Computer, end log."

The computer again chimed obligingly as Jaca took to the forge in her pajamas, heating up a nevercold brass ingot to draw it into wire. Outside, a Vulcan heading home from a late night watched her from the window for a bit before moving on.
