I do not see the point of these things

"Is this thing on?", Jacaranda said as she looked annoyed at the comm panel within her forge space. She did say 'computer, personal log' and it did chirp but that was no guarantee it was actually working.
"I guess it is.", she said with a shrug as she sat down on a stool, "Maria tells me keeping one of these is a good idea. I don't see why since one can just dig in their memories to remember what they need to. I guess this is placed in the Outsiders are Strange bin."
She looked around the room, "Well, we have most of the place set up. Sound baffles have been tested and work so we don't have to worry about noise complaints. Roberto was very helpful in helping me test it with his noisiest toys. Ah, I love that dear Sweetling. I've hung up my platas up front so we're sanctioned to deal in Djabul crafts and goods that have been approved. The hair pins and clasps I've brought will be a good start. Looking over my materials, I can probably design a puzzlebox in the Love's Easy Tears or The Hollow Heart style, but that might have Security or the Marines coming to question."
Jaca paused in thought, "Probably Security, though I do get confused as to why Starfleet has both Security and Marines. They're both Warrior caste, do the same job but are apparently two separate groups. Makes no sense to me."
"I think I might just decide on a storybox. Makes some less nervous, might sell better.", she said still on the same stream of consciousness voicing, "I did take another look around the Promenade. Saw a sign for a Galactic Mechanics shop opening up. I'll have to go around later to see who owns it, maybe even set up a deal if they need quality parts made and not that sloppy replicated drokkla."
She sighed, "I really don't understand this Federation demand for replicated drokkla either, the food is awful. It's not tasty no matter how much they keep saying as if that's going to make it reality. It's like they're trying to imitate the Elders but instead of force of will, it's keep saying it until everyone believes it so. My tastebuds know different and it drives the Federation Worker engineers to distraction that I can taste the difference."
On that point she near cackled, "I do feel for their Worker engineers. They want to Know so badly you don't need the old gift of knowing minds to see it. But we tell them how, that they need to work on unchoosing and they say that's impossible."
She sighed and adopted a gesture that resembled a disconnected marionette with palms up and eyes rolled back, then pulled herself together, "What can one do?"
Jaca frowned thoughtfully, "I think I know what I will do with this thing, I will use it to plan designs. Won't be the same as using a proper fleshbook, but then the Federation peoples didn't seem comfortable with them having a pulse and breathing."
She looked at the chronometer on the panel, "Ah, I must go to dinner with Maria and Roberto. It'll probably be replicated but for the sake of our bond-family I will eat to set a good example."
"Computer, I am done with this.", she said as the computer beeped and filed the log.
