Hurry Up and Fight

I asked for a stable assignment, thinking, maybe naively now that it's happened, that I'd get a chance to settle in and start to arrange things before Ryan arrives a three days to a week behind me. Yeah, that's not happening this time through. I made it to Starbase 400 with no issues and that's where everything goes sideways on me. Big surprise there, huh Ed?

No sooner do I report in than we're loading up for a deployment. We all know about the civil war the Klingons have going on, hell it's all over FNS just about every night. I find out as I'm supervising the loading of the birds onto the transport that two Klingon ships got into it and crashed themselves into Arcanus IV. Now we've most likely got a crap ton more of them coming to get their buddies back. Which means a whole lot more Klingons about to go at it in my new backyard. So now here I sit on an empty bunk writing out this log while we're headed to Arcanus.

The grunts are gonna have to hustle once we get there to get landed, set up their perimeters and dig in for whatever's coming at us. A lot of Klingon ships may or may not mean a landing force, but the brass at 400 aren't taking chances, fair enough decision. Once we get there, we put the CAP in the local space and put some picket patrols in the outer part of the system. Great Spirit help my pilots on picket duty if the Klingons decide to come in guns blazing. I don't want to start this assignment off by writing condolence letters to families. Unfortunately, Klingons aren't exactly the most rational beings when they smell blood.

If that ends up being the case, this could take days or weeks to get fixed. Which raises the question for me of who the hell's gonna be taking care of my boy while I'm trying to not get my ass shot off? That was one of about a dozen questions I had that there just wasn't time to get answered in the rush to get loaded and deploy. Normal chain of command is gonna take a while to even try sorting that issue out for me, so I may have to go a little sideways myself to ensure Ry is in good hands while I'm shooting and getting shot at. If I'd have known this was gonna be the situation, I'd have sent him to Mom and Dad's on Earth while I did my thing at Arcanus, and then send for him once I got back to 400. So much for that foresight you've normally got Ed... Time to start checking out my options on what to do for Ryan's arrival, since I highly doubt I'll be back before he gets in...
