Not so green...

The uniforms were fitting - green, for the machine that hit the ground and flipped the air upside down. For the new recruits, fresh out of boot, who worked harder than most of Starfleet would in their entire career. For the alien blood shed at their boots.
At least, that was the macho themes Percy would run through his head. He was not a grunt by any means - well, ok he was. But he had his wits about him. He was not an engineer, or an operations and systems expert like his cousin in the navy, but he was good. And he felt good this day, as his promotion had kicked in and his transfer orders were complete.
Aboard the USS Maryland, Percy was the 2nd in command of the marines. He was one of the top dogs. He had a mean bark, but loved his belly rubbed once in a while with a spit of spiced rum. But that was a small detachment, in a small deck, on a mid-sized naval vessel. It was a boost for his career, landing and staying there after marine officer training. But this was the big game now.
Starbase 400.
1st Marine Division.
And he was a top dog here. The only problem is that he was have to keep his bark, his wits, and a bit of rum on hand. But he would also need to learn. He would need to adjust to being around so many naval officers and enlisted crew and civilians. This was a very large station and had many vessels (little did he know he would have one of those vessels at his disposal, it seemed).
This was where it was - every marine's dream was to serve here, let alone in a leadership role. Percy's time had come, and now he had to prove it was a wise choice. It would seem his superior, the Marine CO Colonel Jackson was off-station, and that Admiral Bremer of this station was injured in sickbay. But he had a long list of names to meet and speak with, and he would get to them in due time.
His shuttle landed at one of the smaller docking bays - a marine shuttle that carried a few new recruits in as well. They were all good men and women, although he had to admit he would not remember most of their names. Well, there was the woman who sat beside him named Rose, just like her odd eye coloring...
But that was beside the point. Now it was time to get on with it. Time for duty. Time to shuffle his duffel and scout the routes. Time to, as the flyboys said, light the fires and kick the tires. The shuttle doors opened and they all exited, and Major Percy Morris was on his way.
Hoorah!
