Finding my feet again...

350 words; about a 2 minute read
"Computer, begin Personal Log for Lieutenant Junior Grade Jack Solomon, Acting Executive Officer on USS Ark Royal and Chief Operations Officer on USS Ark Royal during mission to Hunster Two." Jack requested.
"Personal Log created," answered the Computer.
Jack sat back in the chair in his quarters on the USS Ark Royal and considered his words as he sipped his cup of hot chocolate.
"Begin Personal log, Mission Day One, 2330 hours. The USS Ark Royal and fleet are enroute to Hunster 2 to assist the population during a natural disaster taking place and I find myself serving in a position I'm familiar with."
"During my time on the Wildcat-A I worked my way up to Chief Operations Officer and a senior officer. On the Wildcat-B I was soon promoted to Executive Officer and on this ship during this mission I'm both again."
"And I like it. I feel like I've gotten back onto a bike I'd fallen off of a while ago and I'm happily peddling away."
"The situation on Hunster 2 will call for calm heads and experienced heads in all the right places, so although I was placed in charge of Engineering initially by Commander Coleman, I took the decision to have Lieutenant Quan assume the Chief Engineer position whilst Lt JG Wooldridge acts as his assistant. It allows Wooldridge to continue his position he holds on the station."
"For me, running Ops and co-ordinating the fleet is enough to keep me busy and my experience is helping me enormously. I almost wish I was back in a red uniform sometimes, but I'm happy for now being a worker again."
Jack took a final sip and looked at the Chronometer on the wall. "Right, I'm due on shift in a few minutes. The ship is due to arrive in the next few hours and I'm on bridge duty." Jack finished. He finished his drink and put the mug back in the Replicator.
"Computer, end log and transfer a copy to Starbase 400 personal log entry, Authorisation Solomon Gamma Echo 195," he ordered. Once he straightened his uniform, Jack left for Bridge Duty.
