Acclimatizing to Star Fleet

It has been four days since I have arrived on Star Base 400. It is very different here. The first thing is how bright Star Fleet keeps its facilities. Everything is so well lit up. Are they afraid of thieves hiding in their quarters? Speaking of quarters, they are overly spacious. The quarters I have would be large enough for four KDF junior officers. I was convalescent in a Star Fleet hospital for several months and had large quarters there but I figured it was for wounded personnel recovering. The large quarters are the norm.

I would think that they are for families but families have even larger quarters. The KDF tries to keep offspring to a minimum on installations. Star Fleet, on the other hand, seems to encourage procreation. There are children everywhere. Does Star Fleet have a military or a nursery? One wonders how the parents would react with their children around so many armed warriors but most Star Fleet personnel go around unarmed! Unarmed, unbelievable!

Speaking of weapons, that was first friction with star base security. They insisted I put my personal disrupter in the armory's vault. They also asked me to keep my bat'leth in my quarters. They were also quiet perturbed when I keep my D'k tahg! One wonders why there are not more killings on such a facility given the vulnerability of occupants?

Quiet to the contrary, the star base is very peaceful. Hardly any fights break out. If one is looking for a good brawl they are easy to find among Klingons. Try to find any conflict on a Star Fleet and it is quiet a task. I have received my share of name calling but when I answer back, sometimes saying things that would get a blade shoved between my ribs if I were among Klingons, they just look back meekly and go on their way. They don't even throw a punch.

That is another adjustment, Star Fleet officers are not allowed to beat their crews. How Star Fleet keeps any discipline is a complete mystery to me. They also are prohibited from consuming alcohol while on duty. I'm not sure if I trust warriors that are completely sober. And Star Fleet doesn't have any drinking halls! They have mess halls but they do not serve alcohol and disallow fighting. A hall with no alcohol or brawls? Why bother?

The worst aspect of life aboard Star Base 400 is lack of fresh Warnog. So far the only warnog I have consumed has been the replicated bilge water they serve. I would be willing to be beaten by three Gorn to have some fresh Warnog.

I hope things improve.
