Tactical Operations

The Room was a large room filled with wall to wall displays constantly being updated, one wall had what is called a Tactical Operations Sector Map which displayed the locations of all allied forces within the area with Starbase 400 as the center of the operations field. This room was the primary office for Commander James Winter, Starbase 400's Tactical Operations Officer.

His job was to plan tactical operations, conduct interdiction operations against piracy in the triangle, Defend Starbase 400 against all known enemy forces. Lately, his desk had been given more paperwork such as the Typhon Pact, The Romulans graciously gave a Cloaking Device to the Tholians in return for their use of Tholian space. To Off set such a deal Winter had been given the task which he recently completed of setting up a tachyon detection grid along the Federation-Tholian Border.

Also this room had offices for Captain Mark's people in Intelligence as well as Strategic Operations Personnel until recently was led by Lee Pike whom took a promotion and a transfer to head up the marine division on the station, Pike's shoes in the office was to be filled by Captain Terran Andrews, the Starfleet Officer on the station responsible for Neutral Zone Operations.

Winter himself was responsible for Tholian Triangle Operations in addition to his role as SB 400's Tactical Operations Officer.

However, he was here for another reason entirely.

He had received orders yesterday to hand over command of USS Saratoga to Lee Pike, formerly the strategic operations officer and now the Marine Division Colonel, Saratoga would become the marine division flagship since her ability to carry large numbers of fighters etc would serve their purpose more than it would Winter's.

In response, James would receive command of the Defiant-Class USS Laffey to better coordinate his duties as Tactical Operations Officer.

"Computer, Recognize, James Winter, Commander, authorization code, Winter-Four-Three-Tango, transfer all Saratoga command functions to Colonel Lee Pike."

"Command Codes Transferred, Verified, USS Saratoga Is now under the command of Colonel Leon Pike." The Station's computer said.

Pike then did his turn in the ceremonial song and dance routine handing Command of the Laffey to the tactical operations officer.

They had three hours for rotating all the personnel from Saratoga and those transferring to the Laffey under Winter's command.

Following the Computer recording the transfer of Command of the Saratoga to Colonel Pike and Pike transferring command codes of the Laffey over to him Winter was preparing to have all the tactical data on Talos IV sent to the Laffey for him to review at his own leisure.

Looking up from the numerous PADDs he was reading he saw acting Ensign K'Wor walk in. "Something on your mind Ensign? We don't board the Laffey for about another Hour."

"Yes sir. The Talosians. I've had to learn about them for my Academy History course and something is confusing. Why after all these years would they want to send the Commodore home? When the Enterprise made first contact, the Talosians wanted to hold Pike in some kind of humanoid zoo. Years later, Mr. Spock took Pike back to Talos to live out his life there, `free` of his injured body, in the illusions the Talosians created for him. Now, they just want him to go home?" He looked at the Commander, puzzled.

Winter understood the Ensign's thoughts. "Lord knows whatever they are Ensign. Perhaps they are searching for some sort of deal, maybe their race is finally dying out and wish to make good amends before they do." Shrugging as he sat down behind his desk prior to heading over to the Laffey he said, "I have David running an intelligence scan for anything they may have told Starfleet that we missed in the essential briefing. "He was referring to Ensign David Lee, the intelligence officer on Winter's command staff. " Now that I Think about it I would like for you to work up a tactical analysis of the system, the ins and outs what sort of navigational hazards they may give us to face. Also, see if there has been any pirate activity in that area at all anywhere near the Talos Star Group at any time. I want to be ready, after all Laffey's motto is Swift Justice." He said with a smile. "

K`Wor nodded, "Aye sir, I'll have it for you by the time we transfer to the Laffey."

"Very Good." Winter said with a smile. "I'll see you on-board, Carry on."

He watched the young man leave. He hoped he could mentor the young officer whom had a lot of promise ahead of him despite him only being an acting ensign.
