Mission:
Mission 86 - Discovery
Location: Starbase 400, Ops
Timeline: MD Minus 4, 1430hrs
ON:
Jackson finished his review of the 201 Files, and was looking over the division's status. So far, so good. It looks like all three line regiments, as well as the ARTY regiment was at, or close to full strength. He was alittle concerned that some of the grunts were using Type 3D rifles, but it did not alarm him. Those were good rifles, standard Star Fleet issue, which happened to marine units once in a while. He might call in some favors sometime to get some more Marine Corps weapons into this unit. The Type 3Fs had more power output, but more importantly, they were highly resistant to dampening fields. They also needed BFS's to go with those rifles. Those came in handy for him against Borg drones. He had a large "Things To Do" list, those equipment acquisitions would be the top of his list. He would worry about hand phasers at a later time. Jax was also alarmed that the 1st Division did not have a FORECON element. He knew just the solution to that problem, and started the problem solving process with one transmission to the Marine Commander himself. He requested the FORECON element that he wanted by name. He also did not get a chance to look at their aerospace support yet. He would have to introduce himself to Major Sullivan sometime. Finally, and inevitably, he would have to meet up with his Star Fleet counterparts. They were, after all, their current land lords. He personally had no problems with the vacuum heads, an affectionate term given to fleeters by marines. But on numerous occasions, fleeters have made him feel unwelcome. Something about tarnishing their image as explorers. He did prefer to work together with them.
After returning to Ops from the Essex, Roebuck found that the new Marine Division XO was already making use of the Marine Office. So, instead of waiting, he made his way down to ‘Marine Country’ to meet this Major Jackson fellow.
Roebuck arrived at the door.
The desk sergeant let the commander into the lobby. "Sir, Commander Roebuck is here for you". Jackson stood up, and walked away from his desk. He could see a rather tall human, wearing either operations, or security colors. He guessed security, a rather seasoned security officer. He outstretched his hand, "Good afternoon. I am Lieutenant Colonel Jackson. To whom may I owe this pleasure?"
Roebuck offered a smile, "Lieutenant Commander Jonathan Roebuck, Acting-XO while the Admiral and Vice-Admiral are away. Admiral Bremer wanted me too meet with you, help you get settled in, and let you know he will meet with you when he returns. He also wanted me to let you know that Lieutenant Colonel Hurd will be returning in a few days, he was married this past week and is on his honeymoon and other personal business on Earth. Admiral Sevlek, our assigned Spook is Acting-CO until Admiral Bremer's return." He handed Jackson one of the PADD's Bremer had handed him earlier.
"General Orders while he's away, you know...the usual." Roebuck added.
"Thank you. While in here, you can call me Jax." Thomas looked over the general orders. Most of it was the usual plain vanilla general orders on all bases. He was impressed that an entire regiment was basically on DRF 24/7. Six hours on DRF was a cake walk, compared to the three month rotations he has seen. Within each DRF was a QRF battalion, always standing by to "get some". He also liked the fact that the division was an active component in the station's security.
"Very nice Commander. Is there anything else I can do for you?"
Roebuck shook his head. "Not at the moment. However, I'd like to get a meeting scheduled with Major T'Lyn, yourself, and I sometime later today. Also, check out Docking Bay 14 when you have a chance, you'll find the USS Tirpitz...an Excelsior Class ship, NCC-41944 there. She's under your Command while you're aboard Starbase 400...one of the Station's two Marine Deployment Ships. You'll find we have all the toys here." Roebuck smirked.
Jax smiled at Roebuck's last remark. "I love toys. Well, I am also up for a meeting later today. Just name the time, and place. Meanwhile, I will give the Tirpitz a quick visit before the meeting. Well, it was a pleasure to meet you Commander.
Thomas was finished with his admin duties for the day. Since he had the time, he made his way through the hustle and bustle on the station, arriving to Docking Bay 14. A marine stood guard at the gangway entrance. After identifying himself, he made his way into this old workhorse of a ship. As he walked through the corridors of the Tirpitz, he could not help but wonder about her history. There was a time when the Excelsior Class was hell in space. Many ships of her class still managed to make a name for themselves during the war. That damn war. Fresh out of recruit training, Lance Corporal Jackson stumbled into the biggest conflict in Federation history. The Dominion War. Most of his original battalion was wiped out trying to relieve Tyra 4. Even now, as he made his way to the turbolift, he could hear the screams of his first friends. 2373 was the first of a few very bad years for Jax. The turbolift doors opened to reveal the old style bridge of the aging star ship. After a brief introduction with the mixed Star Fleet, and Marine bridge crew, he sat on the captain's chair to both rest, and reflect.
