Rachael Yamaguchi blinked as she looked up at the blue sky in the middle of the day as she heard nothing, only the sound of the soft breeze and a single bird in the distance as she felt herself begin to perspire. "Computer reset to night.... the middle of the night."
The sun then seemed to fall from the sky as night began, the bird fell silent as
the night creatures came out as she smiled. "Much better..." she turned to look at Paul. "So... whats on your mind my good man?" she smiled up at him.
Paul put his arm around her and smiled while looking into her eyes, "You. You are on my mind." Rachael looked very pretty under the moonlight. He leaned in closer and kissed her on her soft lips. He had come to the realization earlier after talking to Gabriel and Beth that he was in love with this girl. "You know that I love you, right?"
Rachael nodded her head slowly. "I do... what's wrong?" she asked softly.
"I just didn't know how much until I talked to Beth. You're my first and only girlfriend but sometimes you just know that this person is the one. That is how I feel about you. I'll be going to the Academy next year but I want you to know that no matter how many milers apart we are, I will always love you. I just wanted you to know that."
Rachael smiled warmly at him. "I know Paul... " she replied as she raised an eyebrow. "So you are going to the academy then..." she raised an eyebrow because she didn't know he had finally decided about his future but she did not wish to push him or make the choice for him. "I'm happy that you made your choice... and I'll wait for you because I may follow you to the academy as well..." she smiled at him as she felt him place his hands on her shoulders.
"I didn't decide until I realized how much I really love you. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do but I do know that I want it to be in Starfleet. My mother and stepdad are here, your family is here and I want to be near family. I don't necessary have to be assigned to a ship. I can work on the base. I'm going to talk to someone about it later, after my mother's wedding. But I'd rather you not tell anyone. I really want to be the man that I need to be. And I definitely want to spend my life with you forever." He looked at her, noticing how beautiful she really was.
Rachael's answer was simple yet effective as she gently brushed his face with her fingers as she gently kissed him on the lips. "then I will keep this to myself.. " she smiled warmly at him. "I've never met anyone like you... You're honest, strong and brave.... you never shied away from making the hard choices Paul... and you won't do that now..."
"No, I won't." He pulled her in closely, his arms wrapped around her and passionately kissed her. He had never felt this way and he liked it.
Rachael smiled as she gently returned his kisses with her own, this was all new to her but she liked what she was feeling as she fought to contain her excitement.
He didn't want to stop but he had to before they went too far, "Rachael, I think we should stop and talk before we do something that we may regret later."
"Mmm... probably a good idea.." she sighed but she agreed with him. "We're both still too young for that sort of thing..." she knew exactly what he was referring to as she glanced at her wristwatch. "we still have about thirty minutes... " as she looked up. "Oh wow... I asked the computer for a generic night sky but.... do you think I should add a few things.."
"Maybe make it less romantic. A little lighter too." He kept thinking about what it would be like with her but he knew better.
Rachael nodded. "Computer increase light volume in the sky by ten percent." she commented as she watched the sky lighten. "Now.... add a spiral galaxy to fill forty percent of the sky, estimated distance two hundred thousand light years." she paused. "galaxy is the size and dimensions of the Andromeda galaxy." and with that a huge chunk of the sky came alive with a massive swathe of stars which seemed to come alive and brighten the sky still further.
"Computer, restore darkness in the sky to normal levels.." she paused. "add two moons. Both the same size and mass as Earth's moon but one half as far and one as far." she explained. "place one at thirty degrees elevation from the eastern sky and the other at sixty degrees elevation, along an orbit that's thirty degrees to the north of the first moon."
Both moons appeared. "Hows that..." she knew he wanted a distraction and that's what she was aiming to give him.
"Perfect." He became a little nervous, "Rachael. I want you to know that I respect you and because I respect you, I believe that we need to wait. I want our first time to be special. It carries too much responsibility. I just need to make sure that we are on the same page. I hope you aren't disappointed."
Rachael looked at him. "I'm not ready yet either." she admitted as she smiled. "No. I'm not disappointed... but then I like our relationship the way it is... Beth and Gabriel told me about what happened to them when they had it for the first time, all the pitfalls and the like.... its intimidating.."
"Yeah and quite frankly, I am not ready to be a father. I love you and eventually, when we get married, we'll have them but not yet. There are too many things that I want to do before that. One of them is graduate from the Academy. The more and more that I think about it, I get excited. And I'm pretty sure that you have things you want to do before you get married. And besides, your family will kill us."
"I do.... I have a lot of growing up to do and I still need to decide where my career path will go.... to Starfleet or not." she responded. "getting married is something I don't see me doing, not for a long time yet and I want to go do some traveling... see some of the quadrant before I decide my career path." she explained. "my parents wouldn't kill us... but they would be very disappointed in us."
"So, now that we have decided not to, I think we should stay away from romantic moon light walks." He smiled, "Traveling eh? Do you see me with you on any of those trips?"
"Hell anything romantic." Rachael agreed. "Just in case..." she commented. "Yep,. traveling.." she agreed. "There are places I've always wanted to go and see.... and will you be there... that's questionable... either you'll be at the academy or off with the Fleet.." she looked at him. "You may not get your first choice of assignment when you graduate..."
"I know the Starbase's CO and XO, and my mother is a Captain eh is good friends with T'Lar who has clout. I don't think it will be a problem." At least, he hoped so.
"Paul.... you and I both know that doesn't count for much." Beth replied. "It would be the same for me and my father..... he could request me.... but I want to blaze my own trail....." she explained. "So I assume that neither Mom or Dad can help me.... Gabriel had that mentality and while I went through the academy first.. his outlook has influenced mine." the larger woman explained.
"Oh well, whatever happens, happens." He really didn't care as long as him and Rachael were together when they got married.
Rachael nodded her head. "Never assume you'll have help.... because others may have better grades and get the posting you wanted..." she smiled at him.
"But... you're honest and not interested in your family image...."
"What you see is what you get. That is what my dad used to say. I finally know what it means."
"Considering you hate the man.... I'm surprised you recall anything about him..."
"I used to hate him but now, I just feel sorry for him. He died alone."
Rachael looked at him as she found she could say little. "You know your mom wants another child.... right?" she asked gently. "Soon you'll be gone, making your own destiny and your mom will be raising new children.." she paused.
"and you will also be looking after your own young family."
"Hopefully with you. As for my mom, I hope she does have another kid. I think it would be cool to have a half brother or a half sister."
Rachael raised an eyebrow as she considered it. "Wait.... you want children.... with me?" she paused.
"Duh. Why wouldn't I? Isn't that what married couples who are in love do?" Paul looked at her questionably.
"That's a matter for argument and debate..." the smaller girl responded with a smile. "Do you want children early?" she inquired as she looked up at him. "If we wait until we're both at the academy... then we'd be waiting for another seven years, at least."
Paul looked intensely at her, "Do you love me? Do you love me enough to wait for me or not? Because if you don't, then maybe I should walk away from this relationship now."
Rachael looked at him as she considered how best to answer his question, nay this was a demand that she felt she could not make. "I do Paul.... but you're asking me to make choices that I'm too young to make.... my entire life will be centered around this choice." she explained. "but.... yes... I am prepared to wait for you." she smiled, having no idea of the consequences of this choice that she had just made.
Those would affect everyone in her life and would cause more problems then she knew what to deal with but that was for later to worry about. "Why are you threatening me?" she crossed her arms under her breasts which were still developing as was the rest of her. "You want me to wait and if I say no then you'll end this relationship..." she looked at him as she realized the temptation to pick up a boulder out of the sand and throw it at him was now overwhelming. "If you feel that you need to make that threat then...." she raised an eyebrow.
"I'm not threatening you Rachael. I just need to know that right now, this moment, that you see a future for us." Paul didn't know what else to say.
Rachael paused as he made clear what it was he wanted as she slowly nodded her head. "I do.... yes."
"Good." He drew her close to him and hugged her, "That's all I wanted to hear. I didn't mean to sound like I was threatening you."
Rachael instantly relaxed as she sighed. "Its fine... but you need to work on your delivery a little more..." she then smiled up at him. "Other then that.... we do have other things to deal with before you go to the academy.."
Paul rested his hands on her shoulders, "And we will, when it is the proper time."
"Alright." she responded as she looked up at him. "Tomorrow is a big day for you... are you sure you're ready for what you'll face.... you're mom is getting married which you know but.... it'll still affect you personally.." she explained.
"are you sure you're ready for this?" she looked up at him as she smiled at him. "You'll be fine... "
