The doorbell beeped as Torilla was just finishing up making dinner for Gideon's homecoming party as she wore a pair of blue jeans and a grey tank top, most defiantly not regulation clothing as Rachael was busy setting the table for dinner.

Torilla tapped the door release button as she was greeted by the sight of Paul Harrison. "Hello Paul." she greeted him warmly. "Come in." she invited him in.

"I just came to see Rachael."

Torilla knew that something had happened recently between Paul and Elizabeth but she didn't know the details. "Well Gideon is coming home today... and I'm throwing a party." she smiled. "I imagine you two have a lot to talk about?" she inquired.

Rachael placed the last of the knives and forks at the table as she turned a shade of dark brown. "We do..." she answered her mothers question in place of Paul.

"What about Elizabeth?" Torilla inquired with a smile.

"Beth and I had a much needed talk."

"Ahh... so you two at least were able to sort things out.." Torilla added a moment later. "So... what happened between you three?" she deliberately looked at Paul.

Paul bit his lip, "I really don't want to talk about it."

Torilla looked at him, not unkindly as she smiled. "But you sorted things out... That's good to know..... will you be joining us for the party?" she inquired.

Rachael raised an eyebrow as she knew this was a family affair.

"I don't want to intrude. I really only came to see Rachael. I wasn't planning to stay." Not that he didn't want to.

"Paul.." Torilla smiled warmly at him. "You're not intruding on anything... My husband has heard of you, my three kids speak well of you and Rachael over there..." a wide grin appeared on Torilla's face as Rachael blushed. "Hell even Celeste likes you."

"Mom..."

"Go on Rachael...remember.. dinner is at seven."

"Yeah I know... you've only been at this for the last six hours." Rachael responded as Torilla's grin threatened to split her face in half. "yes... so go on before... I put you both to work... " with that Torilla cackled manically.

"I find your lack of faith so very disturbing mom..." and with that Rachael went into her bedroom, leaving Paul alone with Torilla as she slipped her apron back on. "Ahh the work of a thousand hands is never done." she
turned as she pulled a rack of muffins out of the oven. "Mmmmm.." she
smiled. "Paul, could you pass me over the chocolate sauce please?" she
inquired. "and the icing.. they are right over there." she indicated them
to him.

Paul grabbed both and handed them to her, "Here you go."

"Are you sure you don't want to join us?" the taller then average woman inquired. "You're not intruding... " she looked over at the bedroom door
to Rachael's room which was still closed. "She considers you the best thing
that's ever happened to her... Gabriel and Elizabeth agree with her."

"Okay, I'll stay. It might be fun to see all you interact together." He smiled at her, "Do you need help with anything?"

"Do you know how to decorate cakes?" Torilla smiled at him. "without eating the sauce of course... Rachael always nibbles at the chocolate sauce..." she
looked over at Rachael who looked less then amused.

"Mom.."

Torilla chuckled softly as she pulled out a tray of cookies and with that she
turned the oven off.. "Paul, would you mind decorating these and the muffins... feel free to use all the sauce... we're almost ready."

He snickered a little, "I am a pro when it comes to decorating. My grandmother and I used to decorate cookies for her card buddies."

"Alright... impress me then." Torilla smiled at him. "I like a man who knows how way around the kitchen..." she then smiled sweetly at her youngest who glowered at her mother in outrage. "Mom!"

"Paul... any icing and chocolate sauce is yours after you finish..." she commented.

"Cool." He looked at Rachael and smiled. Actually, it was more like a gloat, "Did I tell you that I know how to cook? My father couldn't boil water even so I told my grandmother that I wanted to learn how to cook so I didn't have to eat my dad's awful food. But whatever you do, don't tell my mom or Lee that I know how to cook because they'll be having me do it all of the time."

Torilla smiled. "You don't like cooking?" she inquired. "I'll try not to ask.... too often..." as she moved around him with a grace that only gymnasts and dancers could achieve as she pulled out a rack of rice crispy chocolate treats. "I need to drizzle vanilla sauce on these."

"No, I do. But I like doing it for fun, not everyday." He handed her the vanilla sauce, "Do you need me to help you?" He smiled at her.

Torilla raised an eyebrow as she regarded him with a smile. "Would you mind terribly so I can go change.... then I won't ask for anymore... I promise...and you two can go do what you need to do.." she commented.

"No, I don't mind. Go do what you need to do."

Torilla slipped her apron off as she slipped into her bedroom as Rachael came
over to Paul. "Hows it going?" she inquired. "Did you give Elizabeth the thumping you know she deserved?"

"No. We actually had a decent conversation. I think I charmed her with my infectious smile." He started to drizzle the sauce, "Don't worry about Elizabeth. She'll leave us alone from now on."

Rachael blinked as the shock of what he had said was the same as if he had smacked her. "wait... what?" she asked softly. "how did you manage that?"

"She likes me. She was just being protective. I get it. You should be happy that your family cares about you. family is important."

Rachael smiled. "Finish up here.... then we have an hour or so before dinner... and I suspect you don't want to talk to me here....."

"Not really." He wanted some alone time with her.

"Then lets get out of here." she commented as the door opened and out came Torilla who was wearing a simple yet lovely looking evening gown which revealed much of her curves and at forty one, this woman was still one hell of a looker. "You guys heading out then?"

Rachael nodded. "wow mom.... you clean up well..."

"Thank you. Dinner is in an hour but... we'll wait if you take too long..."
Torilla commented. "I'll set an additional place for you Paul... "

"Okay, thank you. We won't be late."

"Alright..." and with that Torilla proceeded to set another place at the table for Paul as she could almost feel his eyes on her form, this didn't surprise her as she was in excellent shape and generally turned heads wherever she wet while wearing her uniform as she heard the door open as Rachael slipped out with Paul behind her, she heard the door close as she turned her head, now she was alone.

She knew she wouldn't be alone for long before her husband showed up, he was habitually early and she liked that, it let them spend some time alone.
