Alex and her mom were sitting down, waiting for Deela. They ordered ice teas.
"I am so happy for you. I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. And now, finally, you are making it official." Victoria was ecstatic.
"I know what you mean. It seemed like everytime we were ready, we'd get another assignment and another few weeks passed. I thought that I'd be 50 before we got hitched."
"I've never been to a Klingon wedding. It sounds interesting from what I read."
"Oh, it is." She was a bit nervous but she wasn't going to let her mother know.
She was about to say something else but Deela walked in, "Sorry I'm late. I was in a meeting which took longer that expected." Deela looked at both of them. It was nice to see her mom, Victoria. Deela walked over to Victoria who had just stood up, "Victoria, it is so nice to see you. How long has it been?"
Deela hugged her and then sat down, "Too long." She saw that her drink was sitting on the table, "The last time we ever saw each other was when you came to me and asked me to give Alex here a chance and get her on my ship."
Victoria chimed in, "Yes and I was right, wasn't I?"
Deela smiled, "Yes, you were."
Alex chuckled, "I'd like to think that I had something to do with that as well. I was an excellent student."
"No one is disputing that. You proved yourself and now look at you. And with what you have been through, I think you have proven yourself over and over again." Deela took a sip of her tea, "I'm proud of you. I know your mother is too. Look at her. She is just beaming with pride."
"I am." Victoria agreed. "And Lee is such a wonderful man. I am happy to call him my son-in-law."
"Thanks mom. I appreciate you saying that." Alex was grinning ear to ear.
The waitress walked over to them and took their order, then left."
Victoria looked at Deela, "I can't wait to meet your husband. And your kids, Alex tells me that they are so cute."
Deela's smile left her lips, "My husband is not here. He got an once in a lifetime chance to write with the best." She was worried about him but she didn't want to say anything to them until she was sure that there was something to be worried about, "But I'm sure the kids would love to meet you."
"Great!" Victoria was excited, "I can't wait."
They continued to converse about family and the wedding.
