Getting to know each other

ON:

Captain K`Temoc had spotted the new Operations Officer as she entered the room. `Beautiful` he thought. He nodded to Worf to excuse himself and made his way over to her.

"Glad you made it, and welcome aboard Starbase 400. I'm Captain K`Temoc. Cadet Training Officer and Commander of the USS Yorktown." He flashed a smile.

On impulse she smiled back at him offering a seat that was near by her for him to sit down and join her. After all right now she was looking up to look at his face.

"I am the new Chief of Operations Lieutenant Holly Gillo and right now I don't command any ship. Came close once," she sighed, "but that was sometime ago." She then added almost forgetting her manners. "It is nice to meet you despite this being an official function."

K`Temoc smiled back. "Yeah this this is the first official function we've held in a while. Mike likes to run things a little more on the practical side."

He took a sip of the wine he was holding, "Would you care for a drink?"

She smiled at him and then spoke to his question first, "I would but not the kind you are having. Water would be fine, and I am glad to hear that our leader is piratical in his practices. Would hate to think he is one to throw parties that are to say the least for the good of the state but not for the people."

K'Temoc stopped a waiter and requested a glass of water for Gillo then just looked around the room, and over at Captain Picard, "I'm going to miss this ship."

He then quickly looked back to Holly, "The Enterprise-E was my first assignment out of Starfleet Academy, just before the Borg attack on Earth in 2373. What was your previous assignment?"

She had to smile he was trying to get her to go out of herself but it was going to be difficult for her as her last assignment reminded her too much of a close friend that was no longer with her. "My last assignment was on the USS Gemini, and it was hard for me to let that ship go. In fact, if it wasn't for it being destroyed I probably would still be on it serving under a very good friend of mine. He was a great Captain despite always being out of his natural environment to deal with us all."

KTemoc nodded, "Sorry for your loss." He'd lost COs and friends before, lost ships he was fond of, so he understood what she meant.

"I'm sure Mike...the Admiral has you assigned to the Avenger to help get her up to specs, but if you ever find yourself near the Yorktown you're welcome aboard." He flashed another smile. He wanted to continue talking, but didn't want to monopolize her time or `push his luck', so he stood and gave a subtle nod, "Please to meet you Lieutenant Holly Gillo."

Holly smiled, "I will keep that in mind Captain." Taking a breath she then added, "It was a pleasure to meet you as well K`Temoc hopefully our next meeting will be under just as pleasant of circumstances as our first one was." Lifting the glass of water to thank him for the drink she then took a small drink of it and watched him walk amongst the crowd.
