584 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Mission 82 - The Aggressor
Location: Earth, Charleston South Carolina
Timeline: During 'New Information'

ON:

Following the lunch, K’Temoc and K’Wor left the restaurant and headed toward Battery Park. They took ‘the long way’, first walking past St. Michael’s Church, then walked up Broad St. to the Old Post Exchange building before turning on East Bay St and down to the Battery.

Both of them had been to Charleston many times over the years, but they enjoyed the city’s history. A walk down the streets or through the Battery on a nice day, when the breeze was blowing in, was always peaceful…and both of them needed some peace.

“How’s the leg?” K’Wor asked as they walked past ‘Rainbow Row’.

“Nearly one-hundred percent again. I started running and weights again before we left the Station. K’Temoc answered.

They passed by a few other people walking back up East Bay, away from the Battery, while a few joggers ran past them. Once past the building facing the mouth of the Cooper River and Charleston Harbor, the cool breeze from the water hit their left side. It was a welcome feeling.

A few moments later, they arrived at Battery Park. They crossed the street and walked into the park itself. A horse-drawn cart was passing by carrying a mix of tourist. Most were Human, but a few Andorians, Bolians, and Bajorians were among the group. The carriage tours were a Charleston tradition dating back hundreds of years.

Inside the Park, some kids were playing, a few people were walking their dogs, some others sitting beside trees reading, and a couple were taking holo-photos. The two walked past several of the ancient cannons that were on display, then into the shade form the tall Oak trees. Neither one of them said anything, it was enough to just relax for a while.

Several minutes later, K’Wor and K’Temoc crossed the street again and walked up onto the sea wall and looked out over the harbor. They watched a few sail boats making their way through the water, then out at Castle Pinckney and Fort Sumter in the distance.

K’Temoc then turned to his left and looked out across the Harbor at an old ship. She was about four hundred and forty-six years old…and her name was Yorktown.

“Want to go over there?” K’Wor asked.

“I was thinking ‘my’ Yorktown actually.” K’Temoc replied.

K’Wor nodded, “It’s the ‘F’ nearing completion?”

“About another month. She’s being built with Slipstream Drive already installed. Still, she won’t be the same.” K’Temoc replied.

“Any idea what going to happen with the USS Falcon once her overhaul at the Station is finished?” K’Wor asked.

“Not sure yet. It would be nice if she stayed in the area.” K’Temoc said with a smile before adding, “Come on.”

A few minutes later, the two arrived at a Transport Station close to the Battery. They beamed only a few kilometers away, over to Patriot’s Point. Opened in 1975 with only the USS Yorktown CV-10 Aircraft Carrier. Later, the USS Laffey DD-724 Destroyer, and USS Clamagore SS-343 Submarine were docked there in 1979. Later, in 2017, another USS Yorktown CG48, became part of Patriot’s Point as well.

Like Charleston, both men had visited Patriot’s Point several times over the years. Once inside the museum, they went straight for CV10.

“Race you to the Bridge.” K’Wor said with a smile, and they both laughed as they walked toward the old Lady…
