Sevlek walked into the offices provided by the starbase and looked around for Zandusky and Andrenicus. Zandusky was generally not one to leave the ship unless specifically asked to, which he was.
Sevlek walked to where the other two men were waiting and Zandusky spoke, "It was done. Some basic information was leaked about why you're here on this starbase, rather than one of the ones closer to the border."
Andrenicus nodded, "By basic, you mean?"
"Enough to make people think something bigger is going on. I doubt it will be enough to distract from the fact that you, sir," he nodded in Sevlek's direction, "are here to rattle the cages of someone specific."
Andrenicus looked at the other men, then at Sevlek, "Sir, you realize there are telepaths and empaths here?"
Sevlek nodded, "They will get nothing from me. Even a full mind-meld would not garner any useful information. As humans would say, it is a perk of my upbringing and training."
David Andrenicus nodded, "I thought as much, but I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't voice the thought."
"What is the status of the Gladiator, captain?" Sevlek asked, looking at Zandusky.
"We finished going over data from the slipstream corridor from Earth to Starbase 400. Everything checked out. The variance was so small that to the 8th decimal place it still registered as zero. The new computational algorithms we implemented work perfectly. I was going to get your approval to forward the information to the Corps of Engineers and ASDB for potential use in other ships equipped with one of the versions of QSDs."
Sevlek nodded, "Send the information as well as the configuration data on the QSD."
"Log a flight plan with Starbase 400's Dockmaster and Operations. We are going to patrol the border for several hours tomorrow."
Zandusky frowned, "I'll have Mitchell and Ebvers go over the tactical systems with their teams. I'll also order the carbine pulse rifles issued."
Sevlek nodded, "As you see fit." He turned to look at the officers going over data from the border and the ships patrolling it. "Prepare a data packet for the President and Security Committee, colonel. Include all of the information we previously discussed and include a transcript of the meeting with Bremer and his staff."
The marine nodded, "Understood."
