Sorting out the boarding teams

Posted on Sun Mar 3rd, 2013 @ 8:03pm by Lieutenant Saith i-Ki Baratan & Sergeant Maal son of Torg

1,045 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Mission 82 - The Aggressor
Location: Armory - Avenger
Timeline: Just after departure

Maal had stopped at his quarters before heading to the armory, he hadn't fought the Gorn in years but knew how brutal they can be. He picks up his d'tang and bat'leth. Maal then heads for the armory to grab a phaser rifle and a phaser.

He tapps his comm:"Maal to Bartan."

"Baratan, here."

"Could you meet me in the armory when you get the chance."

"Affirmative." Saith retrieved a PADD and moved the information from her terminals to it. She then logged off and headed for the turbo lift with a small nod to the center chair. "Armory," she told the computer as the turbo lift doors slid closed.

Maal was checking on the phaser rifle when Saith walked into the armory. He then handed her a data padd "Here is the current duty roster for all security and marines aboard."

Saith handed her Padd to Maal. " I have compiled a list of most likely boarding spots. Perhaps we can seperate our people into teams and have each of them patrol specific spots." She looked at the list of personnel, sorting them into groups in her mind.

He put the rifle down and looked at her:"I just figured we should set up something in case the Gorn do manage to board the ship."

She nodded. "Maybe we need a rapid response team, in case they get past our teams, or board at an unexpected location," she mused. She looked up at Maal to see if they were on the same page or if he had a different idea.

He looked at her and nodded:"I agree with you there they we should have at least one rapid response team. I think every team should be a mix of security and marines."

Saith nodded again, "that makes sense. We have four identified risk sites, I will seperate these people into eight teams, appoximatley hald marines, half security. Everyone else will be on the two rapid response teams. Any suggestions?"

Maal gave her a wink:"I figured that I would lead one team and guess we could have you lead another team."

Saith smiled at Maal, "sounds like a plan." She started sorting the names on her lists.

Maal leaned down to watch her since he was quite a bit taller then her

Saith felt Maal lean over her and resisted the urge to step into him, to touch him. She wondered if he knew how hard it was for her to concentrate like this.

"I'll take team Beta and figure you can take team Alpha. We can have security and marines lead the rest with an equal mix for the teams. Say 6-8 people per team."

"Yes. That looks like the breakdown; one team has two more Marines than Security, but there are more Marines available right now." She stood up nearly stepping back into him.

With the touch of a button Saith sent out all of the assignments, and coordinates of the patrol areas. She lifted a PADD up and handed to Maal over her shoulder so he would have to reach across or around her. "Here is your team Beta Team commander." She smiled.

Maal reached around her waist to grab the padd and held his arm there for just a bit "Thanks"

Saith smiled as he reached around and grabbed the padd. "You're welcome." She said sweetly.

He stood there reading the padd:"So what do you think of our current mission?"

Saith shrugged. "To be honest, I am not sure I understand our current mission." There were so many details to consider not the least of which was the Federations point of view on the recent Gorn alliances and all.

Maal shrugged as well:"Who only knows. Mean the Gorn can be pretty brutal, so we may lose a few men."

"I can't help but wonder if this has anything to do with the Typhon Pact? I mean, the Gorn ARE part of the pact." She shrugged, "but then again, so are my people." She sighed.

He then leaned down and kissed her on the cheek:"I really enjoyed staying the night with you."

Saith beamed, flushed, and glanced around the room. It was empty and she smiled up at him, "me to."

Maal looked into her eyes:"Do you want to move in together when we get back to Star Base 400?"

Saith suddenly felt panicked. "uh," she stammered, "I, um, I don't know if I am ready for that," she finished quietly. "Can I think about it?" she whispered.

Maal nodded:"Am sorry to have freaked you out." He then turned and went back to his weapons.

Saith tried to decide what Maal’s words meant. [Did I just blow this?] her mind raced, [we’ve only been together a couple of months, is that enough time?]. Her heart was also racing, and she was pretty sure her face was flushed [is he mad at me?]. She looked sideways at him. He didn’t look mad . . . at least she did not think he did.

“Maal,” Saith started to speak, but paused as the door slid open. The first of their teams were beginning to arrive to get armed. She nodded at the officers coming in and looked back at Maal not finishing her statement. Maybe she would talk to Lee when they got back to SB400. Or maybe that was a bad idea she reflected. After all Maal and Lee had been together a long time, and were very good friends. She shook her head slightly; she was going to have to talk to the counselor, “Favdt.”

Her face flushed again as she heard one of the new arrivals chuckle. Her reputation for swearing was not undeserved. without a word to the officers, she started handing out weapons, logging who had what. She looked over at Maal and smiled. She hoped it did not look like a grimace. She just did not know how to live with herself right now, how was she supposed to live with him?

Maal turned towards her for a second then blew out a breath. He then started handing out weapons and passing out assignments to the others.

She tapped her com badge “Baratan to Captain Greenwood. Security and Tactical ready to go.”
