526 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Mission 75 - Time of Change
Location: USS Avenger - A, Bridge
Timeline: Current

ON:

The turbolift came to a stop and the doors opened. Ryan stood for a moment in disbelief. He missed the old Avenger, but something about a brand new ship just felt comforting. He stepped onto the bridge and continued to look about. Again, the engineers were hard at work finishing up the details of the ship. His engineer was right, they would be ready to go in 12 hours. Ryan walked over and sat down in the captain's chair. The chair was much more comfortable than his old one. That was to be expected though, the old one had been used for over 4 years.

After checking in on the Security and Marine Department Heads in their meeting, Mike made his way to the new USS Avenger-A. The Intrepid class looked nearly ready from the outside, teams were on her hull applying final paint for her name and NCC number.

Once aboard her, Mike made his way to the Bridge, which is where the computer indicated Captain Greenwood was. Though out the corridors, Engineering and Operations teams were doing last minute work. Activating panels, putting covers on over computer access ports, plasma and EPS conduits, and bio-neural packs.

As he stepped onto the Bridge, Mike saw Ryan in the Captain's Chair. He looked to be getting settled in and looking over the access display that was between the CO's and XO's seats.

Mike walked over to the Tactical Station and looked over the Avenger's defensive and tactical systems. Shields and phasers were ready, and torpedoes were being loaded into their magazines. Once he was satisfied everything was in ship shape there, he decided to let Captain Greenwood know he was there...since the Captain was so caught up in the moment and Mike didn't want to spoil it for him.

"Captain."

Ryan snapped out of his daze and quickly stood up to the familiar voice.

"Admiral."

"It's okay, I know you were settling in." Mike smiled, "How does she feel?"

Ryan smirked.

"Not as cramped as a Defiant. I will have to get used to not pulling high yield turns in her either."

"I've commanded a Defiant, but never commanded an Intrepid before, but I know what they can do. You'll enjoy the extra speed, and extra room aboard her. She is a fine vessel." Mike replied.

"Thank you again, Admiral."

Mike nodded, "I think she'll be ready for her launching on time. For a trial run, I want you to take her just around Kaleb system, standard patrol pattern. Work out any bugs or kinks, I don't want her in harms way until she's ready."

"Aye sir. We will depart in the next 12 hours according to my Chief."

"Sounds good." Mike stepped down from Tactical and over to Ryan. "Computer, transfer all Command Codes to Greenwood, Ryan, Captain and Commanding Officer of USS Avenger."

The computer beeped, "Command Codes transferred, Captain Ryan Greenwood now in command of USS Avenger."

Mike extended his hand to shake Ryan's, "Congratulations."

Ryan extended his hand to meet the Admiral's. "Thank you sir."

Bremer nodded to Greenwood again, then took his leave and left the Bridge, heading back to Ops.
