Timeline: The Night after the USS Kearsarge leaves
Racheal looked up at Alex since it was just the two of them chatting outside the lounge. "Well with mom seemingly always off the station... do you have any objections if I stay with you guys?" she inquired.
"No, not at all."
"Well.. its just that Mom never made arrangements and my family won't be here long..." she explained.
"I understand completely. And if I'm not there, Vincent will be."
Racheal raised an eyebrow. "Paul mentioned his name to me before. Besides it
could always be worse.." and with that the smaller girl smiled as an officer who looled well muscled and fit, he also smiled easily and often came around the corner and with that he looked down at what was clearly his kin. "Racheal.. fancy meeting you here."
"Hi Dad." Racheal handled the introductions. "Alex. this is my Dad, Captain Jake Yamaguchi." she turned. "Dad this is Captain Alex Harrison."
Jake smiled warmly at her. "Its good to meet you before I shipped out. My kids speak highly of you..." he looked down at Racheal. "I had to meet the legend they made you into."
"Me? A legend?" She laughed, "Well, I hope you both aren't disappointed."
Racheal smiled up at the older and larger woman. "Why would I be... you are
everything Paul told me you would be." she responded.
"Good. I try." Alex smiled.
Jake smiled. "Go on Racheal, go pester Paul for awhile.... you know you've been dying to for hours." and with that the small child turned and ran off, as Jake turned back to Alex. "Racheal mentioned meeting you earlier, she said you were not what she expected... she had expected the overprotective mother routine and... you respected her..." Yamaguchi explained. "I was suprized, Torilla was shocked..."
"Really. This is a Starbase. He's safe here. I should know. After all, I've trained most of the Security here. As for Racheal, I trust him with her more than I would anyone else. From the moment I met her, I liked her. She spoke to me with respect and I returned it. If she had treated me like crap, we'd be having a different conversation here."
Jake nodded. "Fair enough.. Racheal is too young and too inexperianced to teach anyone... Torilla on the other hand would make an excellent teacher." he then smiled. "Racheal mentioned something about Paul's father... something about him being all controlling or something like that... I think it was a slip of the tongue at the diner table."
"My ex-husband divorced me when I decided that I didn't want to be a stay home mom who bows down to him. He pulled some strings and got custody of Paul. He vowed that he would never let Paul be like his mother. He thought my job was too violent. Personally, I think he hated the fact that he couldn't control me. And he took Paul away from me so he could control the one thing in his life he could, his son."
"Ahh... I couldn't do that to my children, it goes against everything I believe in.... Torilla and I quickly realized that our children needed to be free to make their own choices, realize their own path through life to wherever it may lead..."
"I couldn't agree more." Alex paused, "That's why I'm letting Paul decide if he wants a career in Starfleet or not. I don't want him choosing Starfleet just because I did. It needs to be what he wants. Unfortunately, my husband didn't give him choices. Whatever his dad said, you didn't argue. I'm not sure if Paul knows how to decide things on his own. I'm hoping your daughter will have a good influence on him."
Jake nodded. "Fair enough... Racheal tends to be rather selective about who she calls 'Friend.' She speaks very highly of him and both Gabriel and Beth have both met him and they both liked him instanty. Beth was expecting him to get angry with her when she was hitting on him and when he didn't, he earned her respect... so Paul has no shortage of fans in this household of mine." he smiled as another person appeared, this guy was similer in size and build to who was clearly his father, except he had a darker skin tone and the blue eyes of his mother, he bowed from the shoulders as he pressed both fists together. "Father."
Jake returned the greeting as he smiled. "Son." and with that he did the introductions. "Gabriel this is Captain Alex Harrison." he explained. "Alex, this is Cadet Gabriel Yamaguchi"
"Captain sir." he addressed her formaly though he was out of his uniform. "Its a privilage to finaly meet you." and with that he offered his hand in the human custom. "Racheal has mentioned you to me... getting her onto the subject is easy.... getting her off of it again is a major accomplishment... " he paused as he addressed her, clearly he was letting her decide. "May I walk with you?"
Alex smiled and nodded, "Yes, you may Cadet."
Gabriel smiled. "Thank you." he turned to his father. "Dad. Beth and I are just finishing our packing... we'll be ready to depart within the hour."
Jake nodded. "Very well... I can have you and Beth back on Earth in three days.. so you'll have a day to yourselves before classes start again... so go spend a little time with Racheal. She and your mom are going to miss you guys.."
Gabriel nodded yet he did not leave but rather her turned his considerable attention to Alex. "Captain, If I may inquire.... Did Racheal get intimidated by you?"
"Oh god, I hope not. She's a bright girl and she seems to be very self efficient. I think that she may have intimidated me and that is hard to do,"
Jake smiled as he regarded the zafting woman beside him. "Well Racheal has had to grow up quickly.. considering she is staying with her mother rather then being on the Courageous with me.." he commented. "she tells to be direct and not waste energy with being polite... so long as she behaves of course." Jake explained. "If she doesn't then don't hesitate to tell her...I know some people get weird about it but so long as you let Torilla know, all should be fine"
"Oh don't worry, I will. But I don't see any trouble in the future. Not unless Paul breaks up with her, then I'm sure that Racheal would beat the crap out of Paul." She smiled.
Jake and Gabrielle shared a look as Jake shook his head. "Torilla and I taught her control, same as we taught all of our children." he indicated Gabrielbeside him. "Racheal wouldn't hurt him unless he did something stupid to her like try to smack her..."
Gabriel chuckled softly. "Considering he's closer in size and mass to myself... I think it would be a very intresting fight more then anything else..."
over her... I wonder if she wants to teach him in martial arts..?" he looked over
Jake nodded. "She outclasses him on the battlefield but he has size and leverage at Alex. "On a side note. I'm comfortable with Racheal seeing your son.. she might be my youngest but I have to have faith she will make the right choices for herself... Torilla and I will let Racheal handle whatever issues arise by herself without getting involved..."
Gabriel nodded. "Paul seems bright and stable... He also seems mature.. it'll be good for Racheal to meet someone who is in the same room as her.." he
commented. "Alex.. I might be away most of the time but I know my siblings."
"Good to know."
"Racheal is a child, for now... I encourage her and so does Torilla... we want her to have the space she needs to develop and grow like any child..."
"That's fine. I have no problem with that." Alex reassured them.
"Alrighty." Jake responded. "Hopefully no serious problems will arise... while Torilla is off the station... will you be okay with her staying with you?"
She nodded, "As long as she and Paul show some restraint when it comes to certain things, if you get what I mean."
Gabriel chuckled softly as he nodded his head, clearly he was no stranger to what Alex was referring to as Jake commented. "I don't think you have anything to worry about... Racheal is just maturing...she's also not the type to rush anything anyway.."
"Good. But I can't guarantee that Paul won't try to. After all, he is almost 16. Boys that age, their hormones are raging."
Jake chuckled softly. "Racheal will be fine... besides.. she can handle a little attention.."
Gabriel smiled. "Paul won't need to worry about much... Racheal might be half his size but I don't thik we need to worry about it... from what I saw of him... he seems more stable then most guys our age." he added, reminding the Captain that he was about Paul's age. "what do you reckon Dad?"
Jake paused as he thought about it. "lets leave Racheal and Paul to handle themselves together and let them handle their problems their way...if he is interested, she will know soon enough.."
"I am still going give the talk to Paul though. I think he's old enough now."
Gabriel nodded evenly as his eyes suddenly seemed to develop that 'distant' look. "Someday I'll be having that speach with my own.." he turned to his father. "I got the news this morning. I apologize for not sharing sooner."
Jake's smile widened into a grin. "So I'm going to be a grandfather then...Ahh Gabe, that's fantastic news..." and with that father and son embraced, the fact that Gabriel shared the news so freely meant he clearly respected her and that he did not mind her knowing.
"Congratulations." Alex said with a smile.
"Well Celeste and I weren't exacly trying.... It just happened but... we will manage." Gabriel explained. "She's in all the same classes as me.... for now anyway." he sighed. "the academy frowns on pregnancies in school but there is no real written law against them.."
Jake nodded. "Torilla and I faced similer battles in our time... if they hold her back... what will you do?"
"I'm not sure." Gabriel admitted. "What do you think sir?" he asked Alex.
"I wouldn't worry about it. You have too many people who know the higher ups."
Gabriel smiled evenly as he and Jake shared a smile. "They are not as influential as one might think... regs are regs for a reason.... and getting pregnant at the academy is generally not a wise plan..." Gabriel explained.
"It's not wise but it happened. They'll get over it." Alex hated them.
Gabriel nodded, clearly he understood what she was and what not saying. "Celeste said more or less the same thing, though with Klingon profanity mixed in.... that woman has no filter whatsoever and her temper is simply breathtaking... but I couldn't imagine my life without her. You two may end up meeting someday... she wanted Marines but they thought she was crazy.. she uses Klingon martial arts training to work out... it apparently intimidates the Marine officer cadets..."
Alex nodded, "That will do it."
Gabriel nodded. "I've been trying to get her to tone it down and she's listening, but she feels she needs to prove herself to everyone within range."
he commented as Jake smiled. "Your mother was more or less the same way when she was your age.... Celeste will come around when she's ready.."
Gabriel nodded. "Yeah..."
"I think so too." Alex didn't know what else to say.
Jake noticed and decided to change the subject. "So Alex.... how's Paul doing?" he inquired.
"Paul is doing great. I think that he is a lot happier now that he has found a new friend." She was of course referring to Racheal.
Gabriel smiled as Jake commented. "Racheal seems more cheerful as well. I was worried that she would not settle down on the base.."
"I felt the same about Paul. I'm glad they found each other."
Jake smiled. "Even if she is a little young... but she will do whats best for herself, I just have to have faith that she won't rush into it..." he turned to Gabriel. "And you won't have to worry about her either Gabe... "
"Am I that obvious?" the younger male responded.
Jake smiled as he looked at Alex, clearly he wanted her to answer it.
"She won't. Not on my watch." Alex smiled.
Jake smiled as Gabriel nodded. "Alright.. you two win..." he commented. "but in all respects.. I don't think I need to worry.."
"No, you don't. You can count on it."
Gabriel smiled at Alex. "You are too kind Captain." he turned to his father as Elizabeth arrived. "Hey guys.... Captain." Beth commented.
Alex nodded, "Hey."
Jake looked at his daughter as he greeted her. "Whats new?"
"Not much Dad." Beth responded. "Am I interupting?" the question was asked towards Alex.
"Not at all. I probably should get going." Alex looked at the three of them.
Beth smiled. "Of course sir." as Jake added. "We will not take up any more of your time Alex." as he turned his head. "So... where to have dinner?"
"There is that new restaurant that just opened up nearby, we could eat there.." Gabriel commented as they noticed Alex moving off.
