Mission:
Mission 81 - Revenge
Location: USS Pegasus, Bremer's Ready Room
Timeline: Following 'Waiting and thinking'
ON:
Bremer had returned to the Bridge after inspecting the Marines. He glanced at the viewer and nothing had changed. The Pegasus was still chasing the Starlighter toward Remu III. He thought about ordering the ship to over take, but he knew doing so would risk K'Wor's life more so than waiting til the reached the planet.
He walked into this Ready Room without saying anything, and ordered a raktijno from the replicator. He took a sip as he sat in his chair. Setting the mug down, he activated the monitor and opened a secure sub-space channel to Cardassia Prime. A moment later the Cardassian symbol appeared, soon followed by men.
"Leget Evek, Garak. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me." Bremer said.
Garak nodded, "It sounded important."
"It is. I'm sure you both remember the...incident that happened at Remu III thirteen years ago." Mike replied.
Evek crossed his arms, "How can we forget? The largest Starfleet vessel ever built attacked and destroyed the Remu III shipyards, then bombarded the planet killing millions of innocent civilians...after the war was over."
"And you and your gallant ship and crew stopped them. Destroyed the attacking ship, at the cost of your own and several others damaged." Garak added.
Mike nodded, "Correct. I wanted to let you know the Pegasus is on her way to Remu III now. We have reason to believe a Starfleet Officer turned Pirate has some kind of facility down there, to what extent we do not know."
"And you're just now finding this out?" Evek challenged.
"Jon Westmoreland, my former Tactical Officer, he attacked a runabout carrying my family, murdered my twin twelve year olds, kidnapped my seventeen year old, and heavily damaged the Pegasus. We're in pursuit."
Garak, head of the Cardassian Government looked over at Evek, head of the Cardassian fleet. "We can have a ship intercept him at Remu."
Mike shook his head, "No, Garak. I believe he'll kill K'Wor if he's confronted before reaching Remu. I'm asking for you to pull your patrols back, give him an open road, and allow the Pegasus to cross the border. Anything we learn about his facility, will be shared."
Evek started to shake his head no, but Garak stopped him. "There are only a few Humans and Klingons I....trust. You just happen to be one of each." He smiled widely.
"Thank you Garak." Mike closed the comm, he didn't want to listen to Evek's complaints. After a moment, he opened another secure channel, this one the Essex.
Deela was in her ready room, "Admiral T'Lar, Admiral Bremer is on a secured channel." Deela leaned forward in her chair, "I'll take it in here. Patch it through." Seconds went by, "Mike, hope things are going well on your end. What's up?"
Mike tried to give a reassuring smile, "How soon before the Essex reaches Earth?"
Without hesitation, "Approximately 2.3 hours. "I've already informed Fleet Admiral Nechayev that I need to talk to her."
With determination in his voice, Mike said, "Good. There's been no change in Westmoreland's course. He's either leading us to Remu, and we're about three hours out. I'm not sure if he's set up some sort of trap, or if he's trying to run home. Either way, he will not escape this time."
"I'm leaning towards a trap. Reason being, his wife and unborn child were on the USS Universal near Remu III where they were killed when the ship was destroyed. So, he wants to end your life there as well, no matter who else gets hurt."
"You're probably right." Mike replied, "But we have a plan in place too. Unless he has a Fleet there waiting to jump us, this can only end one way."
Mike leaned back in his chair, "Signal me when you arrived at Earth. Bremer out."
Mike closed the comm, then took another sip of his drink. The next three hours would feel like a lifetime...waiting...
