951 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Mission 80 - Outpost
Location: Starbase 400, Bremer's Office
Timeline: Current: Stardate 66430.4

ON:
Mike was back on the job, kind of. He was still sore from his recent wounds, but he just couldn’t lay around ‘resting’ anymore. He needed to do…something.

“I really wish you would stay home.” Janice said to Mike as he was about to leave their Quarters.

“I tell you what.” He said as he turned around to face her. “Next week, we’ll take a vacation, a family vacation. You, Emma, Marc, Christopher, Becca, K’Wor, and myself. A real family vacation. I’ll take two weeks Leave.”

Janice smiled and kissed her husband, “You promise?”

“Yes, I promise. Tell the little ones, I’ll let Becca and K’Wor know and make sure K’Wor’s LOA is approved.” He replied with a smile.

Janice gave Mike a hug and another kiss. “I love you, be careful okay.”

Mike smiled, then turned and left their Quarters. He was still walking with a slight limp, but made it to his Office with little trouble.

He found three PADDs on his desk. One letting him know that Doctor King was leaving Starbase 400. She had accepted a transfer and would be departing soon. Mike knew the next step would be easy, Doctor Brislan would be the new Chief Medical Officer aboard Starbase 400, and he sent her a message to report to his Office.

The next PADD advised him of the situation aboard the USS Falcon, and that K’Temoc had quickly taken over the project. Being K’Temoc’s former ship, he knew the Falcon would be in good hands while at Starbase 400. However, that also meant work aboard the USS Princeton was slowed. He really wanted the old Constitution class ship back on her feet, and he sent a message to newly promoted Captain Clifford to report to his Office.

The third PADD was a surprise. Finally, Starfleet Command had sent him a new Officer to take over the 181st Tactical Fighter Wing. Mike didn’t know much about Lieutenant Colonel Calvin Harris, beyond what was in his attached Starfleet Record...which looked impressive. He set aside some time to meet his newest Officer, once Harris arrived.

Starfleet has also sent along a new Chief Strategic Operations Officer, Lieutenant Commander Torilla Yamaguchi. She was a Hallian, and a long time Starfleet veteran. Mike looked over her Starfleet Record and was impressed by her's as well.

Mike set the PADDs down and walked over to the food slot. He ordered his usual Raktijno, and took a sip of the hot Klingon Coffee. He turned and set it on his desk, then slowly took a seat. A moment later the door chimed…

Andrew stood outside the door and waited to be told to enter. It was only a matter of chance that he happened to be five minutes away from the Admirals office when the message came through.

“Enter.” Mike said in reply to the chime.

As Andrew walked in, Mike stood up. “Captain, please come in. Congratulations on your promotion, I thought you would enjoy receiving it from Admiral T’Lar.” He smiled warmly.

"Thank you, Admiral", Andrew smiled it was still new to him, but he was getting used to it.

“Please have a seat.” Mike waited for Clifford to sit before taking his seat again. Once he was comfortable, he continued.

“Captain, what do you know about the USS Princeton, docked here at the Station?

"Hmmm. not a lot Admiral. It's an old museum piece, and is being rebuilt here at SB 400. It was a good ship in its day, but seems a little out of place out here, sir". Andrew was puzzled about why the admiral had brought the ship to the SB. At 70 plus years old it must be structurally shot. It would need a complete overhaul, just to remain warp capable.

Mike leaned back in his chair, “Pretty accurate. She wasn’t in a museum however. She had been mothballs at Avalon Fleet Yards for the last seventy years. Starfleet sent her here for modernization. Since arriving, engineering teams have removed all of her old Duotronic computer systems and core, completed a full hull inspection, and started to install upgraded power distribution systems. With the damaged Falcon requiring immediate work, I’ve had to pull Commander Coleman, Lieutenant Gillo, and Chief Blackthorne’s team off the Princeton. I’d like for you to take charge of the Princeton. There’s two refit / construction teams aboard now. Let’s focus on getting a new Type 1, Isolinear Processing Core and new computer systems installed. She’ll only be able to run LCARS 3.7 with that core, but it’s light years ahead of what she did have.” Mike smiled a moment, breaking the seriousness of the convocation. “After the computer systems are online then we can focus on propulsion, tactical, and so on.”

The door chimed and again Mike said 'Enter'.

Tressa was next at the Admiral's office door. She smiled when she saw Clifford was there as well.

"You look well Admiral," she said, unconsciously appraising his health and color.

Mike stood up and smiled, "Doctor Brislan, please come in, have a seat." He motioned to the chair beside Clifford. "I am feeling better, thank you.

Mike waited for the Doctor to take her seat before sitting down again. "Doctor. Admiral T'Lar and I were just notified, Doctor King has taken a transfer and will be leaving Starbase 400. We would like you to take over at Chief Medical Officer for Starbase 400.

"Thank you sir, I will do my best," Tressa said.

"I know you will." Mike replied with a smile. "If there's nothing else, I think we all have a party to get ready for."
