- U.S.S. Falan -
Arev stood in front of a mirror in his assigned guest quarters aboard the Starship Falan. He was uncertain why he was looking at his reflection, something had seized his attention without any leeway for his focus to do anything else. He had visually scanned his uniform one hundred forty-two times as he stood in front of this mirror.
A soft voice broke his focus, "Have you considered that you may be suffering from anxiety as you approach your new assignment, which marks an important step in your career with Starfleet?"
Arev broke his lock on the mirror as he turned to the display screen on the wall next to it, "I have not considered that this preoccupation with my appearance is the result of anxiety induced by my proximity to Starbase 400." He raised his left eyebrow as he continued, "It is not impossible."
"Remember, Arev, you're half Human. You have to deal with exceptionally strong emotions." Regina Clarnen, Arev's mother, smiled as she responded.
Arev frowned, quickly correcting, "Indeed. It is impossible for me to not remember that fact about my biological makeup, mother." Arev walked away from the mirror, sitting in the chair opposite the display screen.
Regina adjusted herself in her chair and looked down as she adjusted some PADDs on the desk she was sitting at. "Have you reviewed the available service records for the senior staff of Starbase 400?"
The young man nodded, "I have mother." He reached for the PADD on his desk, activated it and spoke, "The officers assigned to Starbase 400 are highly decorated, in addition to being well-regarded by many other officers."
Clarnen nodded, "They are. You will learn a great deal about being a Starfleet Officer serving with them."
Arev looked up from the PADD, "When T'Fel and I were speaking this morning, she remarked that Starbase 400 was full of officers with what she called 'Main Character Energy'."
The yellow uniformed commodore chuckled, a sound that Arev found oddly comforting, "Your sister is very colorful lately. As she attempts to fully purge emotion in preparation for her Koli'nahr, she has fully embraced the emotions of her half-humanity so that it will be easier to shed those feelings."
Arev nodded, "She has taken a rather unorthodox approach to the purging." As he spoke, a notification flashed in the top left corner of the display. The Falan was ten minutes away from Starbase 400, and he was being notified to be prepared to beam off the ship. The Falan didn't plan on docking with the station, as it's mission was to deliver medical supplies to outlying colonies and stations in the Ares Operational Theater. Arev continued after a brief pause, "Apologies, mother, but I have just been notified that the Falan is ten minutes away from Starbase 400 and I must collect my belongings and report to the transporter room."
Regina nodded, "Alright. Remember to speak up if you have good ideas, my son. We'll talk in a couple of days, after you've had a chance to settle in. Live Long and Prosper, my love."
"I will speak with you in a few days, mother. Peace and long life." Arev stood as the display transitioned to the Federation seal. He began collecting his belongings, which didn't take long, he hadn't brought many items with him. As he finished, he picked up his rucksack and turned off the lights as he left the guest quarters, making his way to the transporter room.
- Starbase 400 -
Arev materialized in a transporter room on Starbase 400, greeted by a young ensign, "Lieutenant."
Arev nodded, "Ensign."
The human smiled, "Sir, I've been instructed to ensure your belongings reach your quarters quickly. You're wanted in Operations."
"Thank you, ensign." Arev handed his duffel bag to the ensign.
Arev stepped off the transporter pad as the other officer took possession of his duffel bag, and two personal belongings containers, and began his journey to Station Operations.
After a short trip via turbolifts, Arev stepped into Operations. A lieutenant standing at a peripheral station spoke, "Excuse me, lieutenant, did you need assistance, sir?"
The half-Vulcan nodded, "Admiral Bremer."
The Andorian at the station nodded, as he pointed over his shoulder, "Last I saw, the Admiral was in the ready room."
"Thank you, lieutenant." Arev made his way to the indicated door. As he arrived he pressed the chime and waited.
"Enter" Mike called out as he set his empty mug on his desk. As the door opened he picked up a PADD, then looked up to see someone completely different than who he expected standing before him.
Setting the PADD down, my eyed the Vulcan Lieutenant standing before him. "Lieutenant, how can I assist you?"
Arev stood at attention, "Lieutenant Arev reporting for duty, sir." Arev extended the PADD displaying his transfer, and assignment, orders to Admiral Bremer as he continued, "I have been ordered to transfer to Starbase 400 and to take my position as Chief Operations Officer aboard the station, sir."
Mike stood, a new Chief of Station Operations arriving today had totally slipped his mind between reports and orders he received earlier in the day. "Lieutenant Arev, of course. Welcome aboard Starbase 400. Please, have a seat."
Mike motioned to a chair as he sat back down. Usually, he'd have some 'small talk' with a new officer, but with a Vulcan it really wasn't needed. "I know you just arrived, but 'settling in' will have a wait a few days. We have orders to send a task force to the Transwarp Singularity in the Alpha Quadrant. I'd like for you to go along aboard the Pegasus."
"Of course, sir. I will familiarize myself with the systems of the Pegasus, as well as any information regarding our assignment." Arev spoke as he sat on the chair.
"Good. There will be a briefing with the Senior Staff in a few hours in Tactical Operations, I'd like you to attend. It'll give you a chance to meet people as well. "
Arev nodded, "Understood, I will ensure my presence at the briefing." Arev stood, "If there is nothing else, sir, I would like to get to work."
Mike stood. "Absolutely."
As he stood, Arev spoke, "Thank you for your time, sir." He left the office and headed for his quarters.
Arev had a lot of work to do before departing aboard the Pegasus.
