Episode 119 - "Shattered Mirror"
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD1 -1430hrs
ON:
2402 stated off quiet, the same as how 2401 ended. Enough happened earlier in 2401 that the daily hum-drum and monotony was welcomed.
Starbase 400 was once again at full capacity and fully operational, including all of the support ships.
Ships of all kinds had been passing through Starbase 400, freighters, civilian ships, starships...even the USS Enterprise-D paid a visit to the station during her 'Federation Tour' with her legendary heroes aboard...along with a couple hundred engineers working to get the proud ship ready for her final home, the Starfleet Museum. Commander Stark and his R&D team were able to help with a few things while Starbase 400's engineers and repair teams helped, especially with the port nacelle coverings. There had been a formal dinner with the Enterprise Command Crew and Starbase 400's Staff, as well as some after dinner drinks, poker, and a lot of laughs. Data and LaForge was even kind enough to help Commander Stark with a project, then helped to improve the processing speed and efficacy of the station's and support ship's systems. Mike and K'Temoc got in some sparing time with Worf, and Worf taught Mike a few new moves with the Kur'leth. T'Lar and Monroe gave some vacation advice to Troi, while Riker gave some marital tips to Bagwell and Dr. Woodhouse. Doctor Crusher and Miles O'Brien, who had joined the ship at Earth right after the battle, helped to complete upgrades to Starbase 400's transporter systems that were started right after the Changeling and Borg conspiracy was thwarted. Gordi explained to Mike that the Pegasus-B would be moved from Starbase 400 to the Fleet Museum later in the year and docked inside the station's main docking bay, right beside the Constitution Refit USS Pegasus. All in all, the few days the Enterprise-D spent at Starbase 400 was a joyous time, but no one was happier than Zark and Quark, because Zark's Bar, an official franchise of Quark's did more business with so many visitors to the station eager to see the Enterprise-D that they exceeded their profits of the last two years combined.
But back to the present.
It was a cold day on Earth at Starfleet Command, or at least according to Admiral Stonn. He's sent a message to Mike to let him know that the 4th Fleet was finally back to full strength, and as the Commanding Officer of the 4th Fleet again, Mike not only needed to be aware but needed to reach out to all ship commanders. Starbase 400 was also, once again, Flag Base for the fleet and thus would be their home port for repair, refit, overhaul, R&R, crew rotations, etc. Starbase 400 was about to get even busier.
Mike finished typing up a message to those new ship commanders as Stark and K'Temoc walked in.
"Got a moment?" K'Temoc asked.
Mike nodded.
Stark held up a nondescript piece of technology. "Remember the interface module the Mirror Universe operatives used on transporters to allow them to beam from their universe to ours?"
Mike nodded again. "I do." He replied as he slowly stood.
"Well, thanks to some help from Data, Geordi, and Miles a few months ago I've managed to create one without the need of a separate transporter. It will allow us to beam to their universe and back, anytime, anywhere." Stark explained. "Pretty ingenious actually."
Mike eyed the device for a few moments, then looked at K'Temoc. "Are you suggesting we beam over?"
"Well, I mean, they did pay us a visit." K'Temoc replied with a smirk before becoming more serious. "Our intel on their current state is decades old. I talked with Lek and he said from an Intel perspective this could be a turning point, and may even lead to a way to stop their incursions."
"I'm sure Mister Draven would love to see what toys and tech they have, but is that they smart play? Does the thing even work?" Mike replied.
"It works. I beamed over this morning, found this laying on a desk at some facility, and beamed back. No one saw me." Stark replied.
Mike gave his R&D Chief the side-eye for a moment. He wasn't happy he used the devise without permission, or safe guards in place.
"We had medical confirm this is our Stark." K'Temoc added, knowing what his brother was thinking. "And the PADD he found has schematics for a weapons pod for one of their ship classes. It's rather advanced."
"I'll look everything over. I don't want to be hasty, nor do I want to poke the bear if we don't have to." Mike replied as he took the device for a moment to look it over closely. "And lock this down."
Stark and K'Temoc nodded before leaving Mike's office.
