Edg'rrr stared out one of the big windows. He had hoped the station was more than what the stories had told. In some ways it was as many stores and even a few memorials telling about the station's role in the Dominion War we're here. In other ways it wasn't. With everything that happened a few months ago the station felt like any other outpost sitting in the night. Captain Henry Osmond of the USS Dahl'hevva often went to the station's commander.
Edg'rrr wasn't allowed to know what was discussed but whatever it was definitely had everyone on edge. He recalled when they arrived having to go through some screening process. A simple blood sample. To which Edg'rrr noticed the complexion on the doctor's face changed to a relaxed posture when his results came in. His research into the matter revealed many things that happened while he was away.
From a changeling pursuing the USS Titan. To the attack on the new Sol class station from Starfleet's own ships. To the discovery of a Borg ship in Jupiter whose queen orchestrated it all. To now where everyone is getting paranoid about everyone because of it. Edg'rrr smiled thinking about what he learned about Odo and the Borg queen Jurati. "Can't blame an entire people for the actions of a few.". He said softly to himself. Being on the station has helped distract and refocus his mind on other more important things. The biggest is returning to Starbase Four Hundred and letting Admiral Bremer know what happened.
He crossed his arms fwumping his head on the guard rail. How might he explain how he had to give the Terrans an entire starship just to save both its crew and everyone from whatever that dastardly plan was that AI cooked up. He sighed as his ears drooped thinking about how it might be good to either get sent through the wormhole here or locked up in some penitentiary somewhere in Klingon space than face the wrath of a Starfleet admiral.
"You know I have a son that gets into a lot of trouble back home too.". Said a voice behind Edg'rrr making his ears twitch before spinning around and seeing Captain Osmond standing there smiling.
"Sir! I'm was just, umm, I mean. Sorry sir.". Said Edg'rrr standing at attention as Osmond chuckled walking next to him to stare out the window.
"At ease ensign. I'm not here to yap at ya.". Said Osmond. "Yeah he's a little scamp. Making messes, sometimes getting into fights, sometimes letting imaginary monsters scare him in the dark. Sometimes locking himself somewhere safe to he wouldn't have to face them.". As Edg'rrr heard he pondered if he was talking about his son or something else. "Still he's learning to clean up. Only fighting when needing to has been a big one I taught him. Heh, and the monsters he's learning to grow out of on his own. Hard to believe he'll be a teenager soon even if he's about ten now. He's been lofty talking about Starfleet Academy but we'll see if he takes after his mom or old man.". Osmond chuckled again as Edg'rrr smiled. A beep came from Osmond's badge.
"Captain we have an update. The former Gul has taken refuge near the badlands. A ship in his fleet was spotted near some old mining outpost once used by the Deferi. D S Nine's commander is asking if we can bring him in.". Said the voice as Osmond shook his head tapping his badge.
"Of course they headed out that way.". Said Osmond as he looked at Edg'rrr. "Well you're stuck with me for the time being. So saddle up because I'm putting you on the bridge. I need a good engineer to decipher what they're saying down below. The technobabble is bad with the words they use for some of the new tech I swear.". Edg'rrr grew a wide grin.
"Yes sir!". Said Edg'rrr as they both tapped there badges beaming back to the ship.
