Mission:
Episode 117 - "Returning to the Mirror"
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD1, 2045hrs
ON:
The last few months had been relatively quite around Starbase 400. Seven of Nine and her prisoner had left Starbase 400 after staying on the station for nearly a week, resting and having repairs made to La Sirena. Several days later, Starfleet had sent word that Benamite Crystals supplies were nearly exhausted again and slipstream speeds were now limited to extreme emergencies, and only at the approval of a Vice Admiral or higher.
Now, Starfleet had sent word that any ship older than ten years is forced into dry dock for 'vital system updates', and these would be overseen by Fleet Admiral Elizabeth Shelby. This has left Starbase 400 with only a handful of active vessels, and every external drydock occupied.
Still, there was time for more personal things. Like tonight, Mike had taken K'Wor, Becca, and Christopher to dinner then a concert by Starfleet Academy's Orchestra and Choir. Made up of Academy Cadets, they were currently touring through the Beta Quadrant, stopping at several Starbases and planets.
While walking through the corridors of Level 710 and toward his quarters, the group was met by K'Temoc.
"How was it?" K'Temoc asked.
"Boring." Christopher replied quickly.
Becca smiled and K'Wor nodded.
"It was nice, the Cadets put on a nice show. Maybe not as flashy as some may prefer, but it was good." Mike replied.
K'Temoc handed Mike a PADD. "Fresh from Starfleet Command and Fleet Admiral Shelby."
Mike looked at the PADD. "Fleet Formation?"
K'Temoc nodded, "A new directive and programming each starship is to have uploaded. If crews are incapacitated, this allows the fleet to work as one unit and stay in the fight."
"What kind of Borg bullshit is this!" Mike replied as he read over the orders.
"I don't think it's so bad." K'Temoc replied, which drew a side eye from both K'Wor and Bremer.
"I've ordered all ships over the age of twenty out of the drydocks and fully decommissioned, per Starfleet Command directives. In their place we'll move newer ships to start the upgrade. Starbase 400's remaining ships will be docked within the station's internal bay, all systems will be taken offline, and upgrades began. Fortunately, a few ships already have the new programming installed." K'Temoc added.
Mike tapped a button on the PADD and a list of ships that would remain in service appeared. They all already had the new programming integrated with all systems.
USS Sutherland (Sutherland Class - NCC-91800)
USS Thunderchild (Akira Class - NCC-63549)
USS Vanguard (Ross Class - NCC-75148)
USS Warspite (Sovereign Class NCC-74922)

Most of the ships were new to Starbase 400, including the new Warspite and Ark Royal. The Centaur class USS Warspite had been damaged in an ion storm over a month ago and was deemed to costly to repair, so the old ship was decommissioned and a new Sovereign class ship commissioned in her place. The Ark Royal had returned from the Delta Quadrant mission months before, but Starfleet had ordered her decommissioned without much of a reason. A new Sovereign class ship was named Ark Royal and sent to Starbase 400 to replace her, while a new Vesta class ship, the USS Percival, was also assigned to Starbase 400.
"Starfleet is looking to have all ships in the fleet that are to remain in service upgraded and at Earth in eight months for Frontier Day 2401, Starfleet's 250th anniversary." K'Temoc added after a few moments.
Mike shook his head, "I don't like this." However Mike didn't have much choice and all he could really do was send a protest to Starfleet Command for them to ignore.
K'Temoc gave a nod, then proceeded to a turbolift. "I need to get back to Ops."
Mike looked over the PADD again, then tapped in a few commands. To his unhappiness, the process was already underway. The PADD listed four columns of ships, 'Decommissioned', 'Docked and Offline', 'In Drydock', and 'Active'. Starbase 400 now had more ships listed as 'decommissioned' than 'active'.

Mike stopped reading there, the rest he already knew from the previous screens. He shook his head and held his hand over his mouth for a moment. "Unbelievable." He finally said.
"What are you going to do?" Becca asked after a moment.
Mike paused a moment, then turned the PADD off. "Nothing, today I'm not going to do anything. It's family time." He flashed a smile as they continued to walk toward his quarters. However, Mike thought to himself, 'There has to be something that can be done.'
A few steps later Mike nodded to Ensign Harper as he walked by, as the Bremers entered Mike's quarters.
A moment after they entered, Christopher went to shower while Becca took a seat. K'Wor fixed a drink and looked over at his dad. "What something?"
"Sure. An 'old fashioned' sounds good." Mike replied as his commbadge beeped.
"Draven to Bremer."
Mike tapped the badge, "Go ahead."
"Have you seen Vice Admiral K'Temoc lately?" Draven asked.
"Just a few minutes ago, he was returning to Ops. He should be there by now." Mike replied.
"I'm in Ops, he's not here and no one has seen him all day. I even asked some of the goons Starfleet Command sent to oversee our fleet upgrades and decommissions. They said they reported in to him this morning, but haven't seen him since then." Draven explained. "He's not responding to my communications and internal sensors can't locate him."
Mike glanced at K'Wor who was already tapping in commands on a wall display. "Internal sensors are showing him on Level 98 now."
Mike's face clearly showed he was confused, but concerned.
"I'm sending Ensign Harper down there now." Draven replied.
"Understood, let me know. Bremer out." Mike wasn't overly worried about his brother, he knew K'Temoc could take care of himself.
"Did he say he was sending Ensign Harper?" Becca asked.
K'Wor nodded, then looked at his dad. "Ensign Robert Harper is the only 'Ensign Harper' we have aboard the Station."
"And we just saw him in the corridor, there's no way he made it to Ops that fast." Mike replied.
K'Wor shook his head as Becca stood.
"Stay here, and stay off the comms unless it's a secured and encrypted channel." Mike said as he grabbed a phaser.
K'Wor also armed himself and gave another phaser to Becca.
Mike then left his quarters as he heard the door close and lock behind him.
