Mission:
Episode 116 - "A Bounty of Trust"
Location: USS Venture / Starbase 400
Timeline: 2 Weeks Prior To Arrival / Arrival
ON:
Larson had been pacing the corridors of the ship, feeling that the ship will never arrive at his destination. Starbase 400.
Yes, the station is in a remote area and the voyage was going to take long. He understood that. He just wanted to get to his new assignment.
He spent a lot of time in sickbay. He wasn't sick and the ship's doctor was happy to have help, and company. The first officer approved him working in sickbay.
The doctor was like him, newly arrived, this being her first posting. She had been on the Venture for 3 weeks. The previous doctor have transferred out, getting a new posting on Earth and Starfleet Medical. Her name was Laura Swenson, and like him, a native of Earth's Nordic area.
They often spoke of their homelands, their cultures, their families and their languages. They shared many meals on the journey, or spent time in sickbay, treating patients, running tests or looking at files.
They shared a common bond, and a shared affection for each other.
2 weeks past. Their shared affection grew to the holding hand stage, light kisses in the corridors, and more affectionate kisses in their quarters.
The shared affection grew. One day, in his quarters, they started kissing, Clothing was removed, and they were in bed, when over the comms came, "Dr Larson, we will be arriving at Starbase 400 in 30 minutes. Please be ready to disembark then."
That killed the mood. They got dressed. He packed his luggage. And they said their goodbyes.
The Venture arrived at Starbase 400.
He transported over, checked in with the officer on deck, and was given his quarters assignment.
His luggage was beamed to his quarters.
He found his quarters,
The next step was to report in.
Bremer was in Ops, and he was not happy. During the early morning hours he was awakened by a very angry Klingon bounty hunter. Now, he was in Ops with Chu'rex, Vercetti, and not enough raktajino .
"You said Ryne would be here! I've waited a week here and he has still not arrived!" Chu'rex said angrily.
"Have you hard anything, at all?" Bremer asked Tom.
"Ryne agreed to the meet four days ago, said he would take him three days to get here, so he should arrive day." Tom replied.
Mike tapped a few commands on his desk, checking to see if any ships had arrived or were inbound to the Station. There were none.
"Do you know where he was traveling from?" Chu'rex asked.
"No, and I didn't want to ask either. Too many questions might scare him off." Tom replied.
"For a famous Starfleet Admiral and half Klingon, and a former Starfleet Operative, you both know very little. I was doing better with this hunt before you interfered." Chu'rex said with a snide tone.
Tom slowly looked back at the Klingon while Mike stepped from around his desk. "Insults aren't going to help." Bremer replied.
"Besides, if you were such a great hunter, you would've caught the little Andorian by yourself before now." Tom snapped back.
Chu'rex drew his d'k tagh. "HoS lI' Dalo'Ha'chu'! petaQ"
"Enough!" Mike yelled, stepping between the two.
At that moment, two beeps sounded. One from Mike's desk, the other was the door. Mike glanced at the desk first. A small ship was docking, unannounced, one Level 225 in one of the runabout bays.
"That's got to be Ryne." Tom said as he eyed Chu'rex.
"Let's go." Mike replied.
As the three stepped to the door to Bremer's office, it slid open to not only revile Ops, but also a Lieutenant JG that looked like he was about to press the door chime again.
"Excuse me, sir." The Lieutenant stepped back to clear a space for the Admiral. "I was told to report to your office. Dr Aaron Larsen reporting for duty, sir."
Mike was taken back for a moment, he wasn't expecting a new member of the crew to be reporting in at the moment, much less a Doctor.
"Doctor, we're in a bit of a hurry here...I..." Mike paused a moment as Tom and Chu'rex stepped onto the transporter pad in Ops, "Come with us."
"Aye sir." Larsen stepped up upon the platform.
Once everyone was in place on the pad, they were beamed down to Level 225. The small ship was completing its landing sequence and the pilot would be coming through the door just in front of them in moments.
Mike looked back at the Doctor, "Stay back, out of site, and be ready to render aid.
Larsen nodded. "Aye sir." He found a stack of crates to hide behind.
"Chu'rex and I will also remain out of site. Once you confirm it is indeed Ryne we'll step out to arrest him." Mike added.
Tom nodded, "He's expecting to meet just me, so I guess I'll be in the open." He smirked, "I'll say 'It's a pleasure to do business with you again' to confirm it's him."
Mike nodded as he and Chu'rex stepped back and out of site. Mike could see Tom from his 'duck blind', a couple of cargo containers sitting near the corner of access corridor. He waited for the doors to open...
After a pause that seemed much longer than it really was, a lone figure stepped forward. The light dim access corridor, mimicking the dim lighting on many starships and runabouts crews seemed to favor. However after a moment it was obvious the figure wasn't an Andorian and thus couldn't be Ryne. As a matter of fact, it was a woman.
Tom, to his credit, didn't flinch or act as if she wasn't who he was expecting to see all along, however the Admiral quickly stood up.
"Seven?"
After a hesitant initial step, Seven of Nine boldly entered Starbase 400. "Fleet Admiral Bremer." She looked around at Tom, Bremer, then Chu'rex and the Doctor as they stood. "I take it you were expecting someone else?" She said with a slight smirk.
Chu'rex grunted.
"You could say that." Mike replied, looking at La Sirena in the docking bay. "What are you doing here?"
"I was on the trail of a criminal for the Fenris Rangers..." Seven started.
"Ryne?" Tom asked.
"Yes." Seven replied, slightly confused. "He's wanted by the Rangers for a plethora of charges."
Mike motioned to Chu'rex, "This is Chu'rex, a Klingon bounty hunter. He's also after Ryne. He found Mr. Vercetti here is an associate Ryne's so he came here for help and we set up this little sting to catch him."
"Well that explains a few things. I caught up with Ryne a few days ago on Japori. His ship had a message from Starbase 400. It was encoded but mentioned a meeting with 'TV'." Seven replied.
"Where is he?" Chu'rex asked.
Seven nodded toward La Sirena, "Aboard the ship. He...didn't want to come willingly."
"Doctor." Mike called as he walked toward the small ship.
Larsen came out from behind the crates. "Yes sir?" He looked at the tall, beautiful woman.
Seven led Bremer, Vercetti, Doctor Larsen, and Chu'rex aboard La Sirena. Ryne was sitting at a table in the lower rear section of the small ship. He's hands and feet were bound, his mouth covered, and he was secured to the seat so he couldn't get up. He had blood on his head, arm, and hip.
Mike glanced at Seven, then over to Doctor Larsen. "Check him out."
Larsen pulled out his medical tricorder and scanned the man. "His injuries are not life threating. He should be in sickbay, sir." He looked at the Admiral.
"Beam him to Sick Bay." Mike replied looked back and forth at Seven and Doctor Larsen.
"He's to go with me back to Q'onoS." Chu'rex insisted.
"No, he's going with me to Ranger territory to answer for crimes there." Seven rebutted.
Mike took a deep breath, "Once Doctor Larsen clears him, he'll go with Seven of Nine. She caught him. Anything left of him after the Rangers get him can go with you Chu'rex."
Chu'rex grunted, bared his teeth, then tapped a button on his wrist and he beamed away.
"I guess since he won't be paid for the bounty he's not interested in taking him in." Tom added.
Mike tapped his comm-badge, "Bremer to Security, send two to Sick Bay."
"Ready the transport us to the station's Sick Bay." Seven added a moment later.
"Energize." Bremer replied.
As soon as the transport was complete, Larsen had 2 nurses help the patient unto the bio-bed. Working around the restraints, Larsen was able to clean the wounds to the patients head, arm and hip. "The patient will require rest for at least 24 hours before I will release him."
Seven let out a breath, then nodded as K'Wor and Ballard walked in and took positions near the door and close to the bio bed Ryne was in.
"Care for a drink?" Tom asked Seven. She glanced at Bremer, then nodded to Tom.
"Nice work Doctor, and welcome aboard." Mike added with a pat on the shoulder.
