Working late

Mission: Mission 78 - Colonial Uprising
Location: Starbase 400, Ops
Timeline: Following K`Temoc's previous post
Tags: Gillo

As Mike was leaving Ops, he was stopped by an Ensign at Communications. “Admiral, message coming in from the Yorktown. Captain K`Temoc reports they have located one of the missing Sydney class runabouts. It’s cargo is missing and the pilot is dead. Away Teams have recovered some data from it’s computer and they are beaming back to the Yorktown to continue their search.”

Mike paused, it was starting to look like an all nighter for him, “Acknowledge the update. Inform the Yorktown that the Essex is leaving to patrol the Triangle and will keep an eye out for any of the missing runabouts there.”

The Ensign nodded and started tapping commands into the communications station.

Mike then turned around and headed back toward his office. He stopped by the Ops replicator and ordered a raktijno. After is shimmered into existence, he picked up the cup and started back for his office when another Ensign stopped him.

“Admiral, the Princeton has been docked and secured.”

“Very good,” it was nice to have a Constitution class refit at Starbase 400. Even if the class was old by current standards, the vessel had seen so much history in her career. Even classified as a patrol vessel and destroyer now, she would still make a nice addition to SB400 once her modernization was completed. After sitting in mothballs for seventy years, she needed a lot of work.

“Inform Lieutenant Gillo I want a full inspection of the ship’s hull and systems. Since she was decommissioned I’m sure she’s void of anti-matter, dilithium, and all personal items, but let’s take an inventory of what we do have. Assign Damage Control Team 3 and Refit/Repair Crew 2 to assist her.” Mike ordered. He knew it would be tomorrow before the Chief Operations Officer would start on the task at hand.

“Aye sir” Replied the Ensign as he returned to the Operations position.

Mike then returned to his office and informed Janice he would be working late. His wife and former XO wasn’t happy, but she understood. Mike wanted to spend time with her and his family, but as the Admiral and CO of SB400, sometimes the job had to come first.

As Mike sat his cup on his desk, his desk top display beeped. It was a message from Earth, an unexpected one. It was from the Commandant of Starfleet Academy informing him that his oldest daughter, Becca, had been accepted into next year’s class. Mike didn’t even know Becca has made up her mind to attend the Academy, much less applied. Now, not only would his oldest son K`Wor be leaving next year, Becca would be too.

Suddenly, Mike felt ten years older. He was one of the youngest Admiral’s ever in Starfleet and he had a lot of years left in him, he hoped, but knowing his first born twins would be leaving soon made him feel older. He leaned back in his chair for a moment, thinking about their early years he’d missed out on while in the Klingon Defense Force and then once back in Starfleet the Borg attack on Earth and Dominion War. Mike was close to his children now, but he did have some regrets that he’d missed out on so much in their early years…
