What a day for science!

676 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Episode 116 - "A Bounty of Trust"
Location: Starbase 400, Science Lab One
Timeline: MD1, 1200hrs

ON:

Lieutenant Commander Coleman was sitting in Science Lab One, finishing up some of the reports for the Tikhov now that it was being sent off with the Archer to continue its mission. K'Lar and Vashir had done some good work with McWire and Vox on fixing her up and making sure the ship was filled up to the brim with all the seeds that could possibly fit onboard.

As he was sitting and working on the PADD in hand, Coleman received a notification from Admiral Bremer about an upcoming mission. Opening the message and reading it, Coleman realized that him and the Visionary was needed for a mission to the Delta Quadrant. Coleman was glad that the Visionary was just updated with the most recent bits of software and hardware from Starfleet Corps of Engineers, which made the control panels appear more gray than blue like it had been for several decades at this point.

Not only that though, but the Quantum Slipstream Drive had just gotten an upgrade for better control for those actually flying the ship and those down in Engineering. That made Coleman feel a bit better because lord only knew what could happen if the slipstream were ever to be knocked out. There had been ramblings amongst Starfleet engineers that Voyager had a message from a future Harry Kim that he sent back to himself after one such event occurred.

But, that was just one of those conspiracy theories...at least according to Coleman's brother, Jonathan. There was no such recorded message, but it still made Nick a bit uneasy and glad that they were working out some of the kinks of the Slipstream Drive.

Hearing a noise out of the corner of the lab, Coleman put the PADD down and began looking around for the cause of the noise that he heard. The lab wasn't empty when Coleman entered, which he forgot for a moment because the Alien Archeology and Anthropology department were working on some experiments from samples that were sent up by Kaleb IV.

Getting up from his seat and walking over to one of the machines that the three officers were working on, Coleman could see the cause of the noise he heard earlier. It was a cup, but one of the scientists had another piece of....something in his hand that he was using to twirl it around the edges of the cup and causing a noise.

Coleman put his finger up and said, "What in the world is that and what is that noise?" The three officers jumped slightly and didn't say anything for a moment, just looking around between them, hoping one of the others would talk before them. But, when none of them spoke up, the lead finally spoke up and said, "Well, it's a musical instrument from down there on Kaleb IV. It's causing some harmonics that are rather interesting. We were thinking that this may have been a part of a set of unknown numbers. We're waiting on the teams down there to tell us if they've found the other ones, but we were....just practicing with them."

Coleman let out a hardy chuckle that would rival that of a Klingon as he heard what they were doing. He was happy that they were able to have some fun while getting some interesting data. He put his hand on the shoulder of the lead and said, "Well then, sir. Carry onward! I've got to head up to OPS for a meeting, so just let me know if they find the others before I leave, okay? I'd love to hear what comes out of it."

The three officers smiled and said in unison, "Yes, sir."

With that, Coleman went and gathered his PADDs before heading out of the lab and heading up towards OPS to see what was going on with the mission to New Talax. But, he was truly excited to see what would happen if they found the other musical cups.
