Episode 116 - "A Bounty of Trust"
Location: Starbase 400
" Come on Kah'lyn feet up we have ten more laps to do." Fulvia yelled out behind her. Just as promised she volunteered to help the hybrid lose the baby weight the two of them had put on.
Now dressed in the federation gym gear with added wrist, belt and ankle weights the two of them were tearing around the station's biggest ring as fast as they could go.
“You do realise... this is killing me, right?” Kah’lyn was slowing down, she’d been running for what felt like forever. Losing weight seemed like a good plan when she’d made it, now she was wishing for an easier way.
Fulvia slowed as she signalled for a time out letting the hybrid catch up with her. " Okay time out first timer. " She replied jokily as she handed her a bottle of water. " It get's easier after you've done this before."
Kah’lyn paused grateful for the rest, taking the bottle she opened it and sipped her water. “Maybe so, I do need to lose the baby weight so I’m not going to quit on you.”
" That's the spirit." Fulvia said giving her a friendly smile before she pulled up her own bottle. " You sticking with the diet plan I sent you? " the manga roman enquired.
“Mostly” Kah’lyn offered a wry smile. “Croesus has been helping me to stick to it. Though I do have the odd chocolate bar as a treat every now and then.”
" A treat now and again won't hurt you." Fulvia replied. " Guess growing up on barley and oats helps me avoid that."
Kah’lyn grinned. “Maybe so. Less temptations that way. If I need to remind myself not to over eat I stand in-front of the mirror.”
" That's a great idea." Fulvia said with a smile as she stretched slightly.
“I’m still trying to get used to the night time regime” Kah’lyn took a seat. “I’ve always been someone who enjoys a good night’s sleep, I’m not used to being woken up overnight, except in an emergency.”
" I know that feeling. Is slightly easier with four in a bed. My lord and husband always jumping out of bed at the slightest sound." The roman replied with a grin.
“Four in a bed? I’m not sure I could put up with that!” She grinned. “I like my time with Croesus too much.”
" It was strange at first, but now i can't imagine not living like it. Does that make me odd?" Fulvia enquired.
“Not at all” Kah’lyn shook her head. “In-fact I think it’s very sweet. The closeness of your family is wonderful.”
" It is rather nice. " Fulvia said with a grin on her face. " Better than i could ask for back home."
Kah’lyn looked at Fulvia curiously. “Is it not something you’d do back on your homeworld?”
" Be a free woman with her hybrid children? No back home i'd always be seen as an uprisen gladiator something always below the upper class of the Patricians. " The roman replied with a hint of bitterness in her voice. " Which is rather ironic. The scandals of what they get up to that come out of the Patrician families could make Orion blush."
Kah’lyn nodded. “Sounds pretty hypocritical to me, you’re free here, we both are. I know all I want to know of my Romulan roots, I don’t want to know anymore.”
" Hey, your stronger than they are and you don't need them to control you." Fulvia replied giving her a reassuring smile. " You have a wonderful husband, child and friends here on the station."
Kah’lyn smiled warmly. “Thank you Fulvia, having friends like you means a lot to me.”
" Don't mention it. Now you up for a few more rounds of the station?" She said clipping her water bottle back on her belt.
Kah’lyn gave Fulvia a ‘Do I have to?’ look before nodding. “Let’s get it done and over with!”
Fulvia nodded before starting her run again keeping an eye on her friend to make sure she didn't push herself to far.
Keeping up with Fulvia was certainly a challenge but Kah’lyn liked a challenge. Her biggest challenge right now was motherhood, something she was enjoying.
