Deela could be heard yelling at someone in her office in OPS. “I’m not going declare him dead. He’s alive. I have the proof but still Starfleet will not let me look for him. So I am NOT going to do that!”
Jack’s sister stood up, “It’s been over 2 years and you haven’t found him yet. Are you going to believe someone who would sell his own mother to the highest bidder? Oh my God!”
“Until I am proven wrong, I’m not going to do that. Now, get out of my office before I have you thrown out!”
“Fine, I’ll just go over your head.” She put in one more jab in, “The rumors are right. You have changed. And not for the best.”
“OUT!!!” Deela stood up, ready to push her out the door. When the door opened, everyone there was staring, shocked that she was highly emotional.
Deela sat in her office, and flung her coffee cup at the door. At the same time, the door opened. The cup just missed him. He looked at the wall ad shook his head, “That’s a first.”
Deela glared at him, then snapped at him, “What is it Lieutenant?”
He was a little timid at first, “Admiral.” He continued, “There is a situation in the promenade. The shop owner is specifically asking for you.”
Deela sighed, “Sure he is. When it rans, it pours." When Deela arrive at the promenade, she made her way the one of the shops there. “What do you want?”
“Aw, just the person I want to see. One of my employees is lying to me. I need a you to tell me if he is.”
“You called me over here just so you can use me as a human lie detector?! Are you kidding me?! There are plenty of Betazoids on this base. I think I’ll pass.”
“But you’re special.” The shop owner could see she wasn’t in the mood but her pressured her more. He wished that he hadn’t done that.
Deela lunged towards him. She was about to grab him and shove him against the wall, when her combadge stopped her. “T’Lar here.”
“Admiral, I need you in Sickbay. It’s your daughter, Raivyn. She’s been hurt. Brandon is here too but he’s alright.”
“On my way.” She glared at the shop owner, “Looks like this is your lucky day.” Deela left, obviously worried.
When she got to sickbay, Brandon stood up and ran to her. She hadn’t seen him this upset in a while. She hugged him, “What happened?
“We were in the holodeck and we were playing a game, you know, the one with the fairies and trolls? I didn’t know that the safeties were off. Raivyn got hurt while we were fighting the trolls. That should have been me.”
She looked at him. “No, don’t talk like that. Must have been a malfunction. I’ll have to investigate it. But right now, I need to check on your sister.”
“Mom. I don’t think it was. I’ve been having trouble with that half Klingon boy I told you about. I reported him because he reprogrammed the replicator in the classroom. He was bragging about it to his friends. One of my friends got really sick so I reported him. He said that I’d pay for it. I guess he kept his promise.”
“Let’s check on your sister.” Deela hugged him again.
The nurse walked over to her, “Raivyn will be fine. She broke her arm but we fixed it. It’ll be a little sore for a day but it was a clean break. She’s ready to go home.”
Deela thanked her and motioned for Raivyn and Brandon to follow her out. As they walked, Deela had a conversation with them, “I want you to take your sister home. I have something I need to take care of.”
Brandon nodded, “Okay, I will. I’m sorry. I didn’t think he’d do what he did. Sorry Raivyn.”
“It wasn’t your fault. And you beat the troll’s butt.” She smiled, “Thanks for saving me, big brother.”
“I’ll see you both in a few.” Deela was on a mission. She was angry. One more thing and she was going to lose it.
With the computer’s help, she located the boy. She approached him, “ Nav’ew Shirg, come with me.”
Nav’ew looked at her and then just started walking away without a word. He refused to do so.
So Deela, without a word, walked with him, “So, I guess that is a no.”
“I don’t have to do anything if I don’t want to. And I don’t want to.” He kept walking.
Deela fed up especially with the day she had, she put her hand on his shoulder and squeezed, “You may not be a Starfleet officer but your father is. You are required to obey the brass.”
Nav’ew winced, “I’m going to tell my mother about this.” His mother being Klingon and not Starfleet, he felt that the rules didn’t apply to him.
“Let’s do that. And you can tell your dad as well. When they find out what you did, you will be punished. I will see to that.”
“I didn’t do anything. I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He tried to get out of her grip but Deela pushed him in a corner. She then grabbed his shirt, “You hurt my daughter. She could have been killed. Reprogramming computer programs could get you put in the brig.”
“Yeah, right. I don’t know what you are talking about.” He struggled to get out of her hold.
“Then I will show you what I’m talking about. I’m going to let you experience what you created for my son, Brandon.” She practically dragged him off. She took him to the holodeck and opened the program that he altered, taking the safety protocols off. She pushed him in and shut the door behind him but not before telling him “Good luck.” She waited a few minutes before entering. There was the kid, crouching behind a rock. He was surrounded by three trolls. He was scared. He ran towards her and as he did, the trolls were right behind him. One saliva dripping troll jumped on his back and pushed him to the ground. What he didn’t know was that the safety protocols were put back on. Before anything happened, the troll disappeared. A voice rang out, “Trolls 1, player 0.” Nav’ew was scared.
Deela folded her arms, “How would your mother feel, knowing that her son, cried like a baby? Where’s the honor to die?” She pulled him to his feet, “If I hear that you have reprogrammed anything or done anything else to my kids, Brandon or Raivyn, I will take some kind of action, one that you’ll never come back from.” She was going to be keeping an eye on him. “My daughter broke her arm. It could have been more serious. She could have been killed.”
“I’m sorry.” He didn’t look at her. He feared her and just wanted to go home. He feared his Klingon mom as well., “Arc.” The door opened and he ran out so fast and never looked back.
Deela restarted the program, with safety protocols in place. She just wanted to shoot something. Once done, the game announced that she had won. Deela understood why her kids loved stuff like that. It put a smile on her face. It was time now to join her kids and hug them.
