Brandon was curious as to this person her mom let come back with them. He knew that he was the image of his dad whom he never got to know. His curiosity was getting to him. He wanted to get to know him, his history and see of he could figure out why his mom felt the need to believe him.
Brandon, being the Executive officer's son, he was able to get away with things that he normally wouldn't. He had his little tricks that he learned growing up on the base to get away with things so he could sneak around the base without getting caught being in places that he shouldn't be.
Soon, he found himself staring at the face of someone he had only seen in holopictures. His dad's doppelganger saw him and moved closer to get a look at the boy who looked like his son, "What you staring at kid?"
Brandon wasn't scared of him nor was he going let this man intimidate him. He waited for a moment before speaking, "I was just wondering what my mother sees in you to let you come here and not send your ass back to where you came from."
"I see." He stared at him intensely, "Maybe your mother wants a real man back in her life."
He scoffed, "My mother already has a real man. Just because you look like my father, you'll never be my father or his replacement."
"We'll see." Jim relaxed a bit, "If she doesn't get her husband back soon, he'll be dead and I'll be able to step in and console the grieving wife."
"He's GOING to come home. Jack is probably making his plan to escape. He's just waiting for the correct opportunity to escape." Brandon had faith in Jack.
"Yeah? Just keep fooling yourself. But if per chance he does escape and finds his way back to your mother, then I will leave them alone but if not, I'll be there to pick up the pieces. You never stop loving your child's father."
"You are delusional if you think you have a chance. But Jack is coming back, you'll see."
Jim smiled, "I hope you're right. If it doesn't happen, then I will step in. You're mom is really struggling and the longer Jack is gone, the worse she's going to get. I can tell that she isn't the same person I remember. She was a strong Vulcan woman which nobody pushed her around back then." He smiled, "I was surprised when she let me go. She could have let me die but she didn't. She saved me and let me go."
"She did that because that is who she is." Brandon didn't like him much.
"Well, you're mother has changed. She's gotten soft. The old Deela would have never let me come back with her, no matter what I told her. But she did. So, there must be a place in her heart for me. Why else would she let me come back here with her?"
Brandon thought for a moment, "Good question. Then again, you are in here, not running loose around the base. She's using you just like you are using her."
He grinned, "I told her it was okay to put me in here. It's called building trust."
"Don't be fooled by her generosity. She'll never trust you. I'll make sure of that." Brandon sighed.
"Ooh, I'm scared." He laughed, "Time will tell."
Jim started to say something else when someone walked in, "Hey you! How did you get in here? Get out before I report you to Admiral Bremer!"
'I was just leaving." And that's what he did. Jim was right about one thing, his mom was not herself. And nobody seems to notice.
