Mission: Episode 110 - An Endeavor in Discovery
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD3 - 0845hrs

ON:

The Pegasus had arrived at Starbase 400 less than an hour before. The Perseus had been undocked and moved into one of the smaller maintenance bays for final repairs as the crew left the ship so engineering could look over the ship's systems after her eventful shakedown cruise.

Arriving in his office in Ops, Mike found that his bother was still aboard the station instead of out on his planned patrol.

Mike tapped his comm-badge, "Vice Admiral K'Temoc please report to my office."

A few minutes later a tired K'Temoc walked into his brother's office.

"You look like you haven't slept." Mike commented.

"I got two hours." K'Temoc replied. "Yard personnel put the Yorktown in maintenance for an engine overhaul, after I told them to have her ready to depart."

"That answers one of my questions." Mike replied. "Why didn't you get sleep?"

"I was trying to finish up some lingering reports. Then I got word of your situation, and the situation with the USS Ransom." K'Temoc replied.

"The Ransom? Isn't she one of the newest Nova class vessels to launch?" Mike asked.

"Yeah, she was sent to patrol the Clarus V battle site since Starfleet was delaying in sending salvage teams when she was jumped by Ferengi scavenger. Grand Nagus Rom said it wasn't a Ferengi Alliance operation. The USS Equinox responded to the USS Ransom's distress call and assisted in fighting off the scavenger." K'Temoc explained. "I also updated the Station's database to show the USS George Washington and USS Cygnus officially assigned to Starbase 400. The GW, a Galaxy Refit I understand, but a California class? I hope the Cygnus doesn't have the same reputation as that other California class ship...the Cheerio...umm, Cerritos."

Mike nodded as he took a seat. He retrieved a raktijno from the food slot, took a sip then a deep breath. "What do you remember about Captain Alyssa Conway?"

K'Temoc shifted his weight from foot to foot, "Um", then he looked around for a moment, "Captain of the USS Athena during the Typhon Pact war. She was a Captain out of AFY when I was there with the USS Falcon during the last several months of the Dominion War. Good officer, better person. I hated to hear of her death."

"Personally." Mike asked, pushing.

K'Temoc was hesitant to answer, "Uh, we were friends. One night, after we got back from the Battle of Chintoka' we...", he trailed off for a moment, Why?"

Mike motioned for K'Temoc to have a seat then he tapped his comm-badge. "Ensigns Conway and K'Wor please report to my office."

A few moments later K'Wor came in and took a position near the door in a security officer's manner, not as a family member. Soon there after Ensign Conway came in. He was still a little worse for wear but his injuries were healing.

"Reporting, as ordered. Sir." Conway said after a moment of standing off to the side, between Bremer and K'Temoc.

"Have a seat please Ensign." Mike said.

After Conway took a reluctant seat, Mike stood with a couple of PADDs in his hands. "During the Pegasus's shakedown, Ensign Conway's start was a little shaky, but in the end, when the chips were down, he came through and helped save the lives of everyone on the cruise ship, being inquired in the process. During his treatment, the medical staff found some odd readings."

"Odd?" Conway asked, concerned. "They didn't say anything to me."

"They found that Mister Conway to a quarter Klingon. His mother was Human while his father was half Klingon." Mike added.

"My mom never told me who my father was." Conway said in a quiet tone.

"Ensign, Vice Admiral K'Temoc here, he's your father." Bremer announced as he handed both of them a PADD with the medical data.

K'Temoc stood. "She, she never told me. It was only one night..."

Conway stood, "It only takes one night!" He grabbed K'Temoc around the neck. "You never loved her, you never loved me!"

K'Temoc pushed Conway off and he hit the deck on his backside. "We were good friends. We let the emotions of a tough situation, and some alcohol, lead us to a bad decision. We knew later that night was a mistake, but we remained friends."

"Bullshit!" Conway said as he stood up. "You used her!"

"We used each other that night, but we did in fact stay friends." K'Temoc replied. He tapped in a few commands on the PADD and pulled up a message he had saved in his database. He pressed play and turned it to show Conway. A second later his mom's face flashed onto the screen.

"Hey Jimmy...yeah, I know you hate that, but I also know I'm the only one that can get away with it." Alyssa Conway smiled. "I'm so happy about you and Danielle finally tying the knot. Okay, I'm a little jealous too." She smiled again and let out a laugh. "Repairs to the Athena are almost complete and I've asked Admiral Clancy to let us join the fleet to retake Starbase 400. I'm not sure if she will, she's not the nicest Admiral I've met...okay, she's a bitch." Alyssa laughed again. "You, that new wife of yours, and your big brother better stay safe, and we'll all have a round or three of drinks after the battle is over. Oh, there is something a little more serious I want to talk to you about too, something we should have discussed long ago...but I have to go for now." Alyssa smiled again, then Federation logo reappeared as the recording ended.

"That was just a few weeks ago." K'Temoc said. Now, he had an idea of what Alyssa wanted to talk about too.

Conway slumped back down to the floor. He was in disbelief. Some of the things his mom had told him didn't add up. Could he have not remembered correctly or had she also been hiding things from him? And how had no one else been able to verify he was a quarter Klingon before? He had so many questions.

After a moment, Conway stood, "I, I need to be alone." Without another word he walked out of the office.

Mike looked over at his brother. This was something he himself had gone through, twice before. "You want to talk?"

K'Temoc didn't say anything, instead he also left the office while he was lost in thought.

K'Wor looked at his dad for a moment, both of them concerned about K'Temoc as well as Conway.
