Episode 110 - An Endeavor in Discovery
Location: Brig
Timeline: Current
Fulvia was annoyed as her armour clad feet up on the security desk. The Romulans prisoners were keeping her on her feet. The crew had started breaking down and fighting each other over who fault this was.
Highly likely it was all a distraction so some of them could work on an escape attempt.
A slight stab from her belly made her look down. Her unborn daughter seemed to sense her worry about this whole mess.
Looking up at the two Romulan pow's in the opposite cell's a slight grin formed as she spoke. " You two had better behave. At least these two were cadged.
Feeling better than she had, Kah’lyn had made her way to the brig to speak with her father. She needed answers and the only way to get them was to speak to him if she’d be allowed to.
Noting the individual at the door Fulvia took her feet off the desk. " Hey good to see you up Kah'lyn."
“Thank you, I’m glad to be up” Kah’lyn offered a smile, which soon disappeared when she looked towards the cells. “May I speak with the prisoners?”
" May i ask why? " The nova roman inquired?
Kah’lyn nodded. “I need answers, and I want my so-called father to know that I want nothing more to do with him!!”
" Okay go ahead, but be very careful. They'll still try and get into your head." The security officer said. " I'll be just here if you need me."
Kah’lyn nodded and smiled. “Thank you” Walking through to the cells Kah’lyn stood looking at her father and his XO with anger and disgust. “I don’t know which one of you to hate the most! You almost killed me and my baby!!”
If Kah'lyn had expected any reaction from her father the elder of the Romulans the nothingness wasn't one she had expected. All he did was stare at the ground his head in his hands as maybe the ledger of his life and the blood that had flowed from it in the name of the star empire had finally caught up with him.
And it was all for nought.
Miru on the other hand gave nothing but a vicious grin. Even through the beating he had taken from Xalanth capture of him the arrogance of one of the empress chosen hadn't left him. " If i remember correctly you were the one who wanted rid of the abomination in your womb."
Kah’lyn looked furious as she looked towards Miru. “How dare you!! I would never do that!!” She looked towards Fulvia then back at Miru. “You’re just trying to bait me, I’m not going to give you that satisfaction.”
" Bait you?" Miru said laughing slightly. " My pretty i didn't have to bait you at all. Do you remember that slight squeak you let out when i first claimed you?"
Fulvia was disgusted by all this. She'd been born a slave in a magna roman arena and even she wasn't subjected to anything like this slime ball or the thing that claimed to be Kah'lyn father.
Kah’lyn was trying not to let Miru get to her. “You do realise that I have absolutely no memory of that, so it couldn’t have been very special could it?” She grinned a wry grin. “Besides who would want an errand boy? Any woman worth her salt would go straight to the the man in command, not his lackie!”
" Errand boy? " Miru yelled as her words bit him deep. " I've been running that warbird for years while that ancient relic clings to his past glory's as he fades from the empress favour. It has been my victories not his. What can you expect from something that mated with an animal."
Kah’lyn smiled it was obvious she’d hit a nerve. “Ohh I don’t think so, he’s the Commander you’re just a SubCommander! One who directly disobeyed the orders of his Commanding Officer!! You know what that means.... not one Commander in the entire Romulan fleet would have a traitor as part of their crew!!”
Kah’lyn turned and walked away across to her father’s cell. “There was a moment there I actually thought you wanted me. How wrong I was!”
Her father moved his head up to look at his daughter. His eyes were blood red from his tears and his face was a mess of scratches from his nails. " I know." He said weakly with all the tone of a man who realised he had made every wrong move in his life.
A laugh came from Miru cell. " Can you image being as broken as that old fart. He brings disgrace to the romulan name after he lay with that animal."
" For someone obsessed with purity you sure do have a large amount of inter species holo porn on your personnel computer." Fulvia said from her desk. She was guessing, but from the look on his face it was a good one.
" A man has urges." was all he could mutter.
“I wonder how many of those urges resulted in offspring you’re not admitting to.” Kah’lyn grinned a wry grin. She looked to Fulvia. “May I speak with my father in private?”
Fulvia nodded as she muted the audio to Miru cell and darkened the shield. " Sound barrier is going up i won't be able to hear you." She said as the faint zink brought it up.
Kah’lyn turned to look at her father. “Did you ever care about me? Don’t bother lying, just remember I’m half Betazoid, I’ll know if you lie to me.”
The Eldar Romulan was silent for a long time before he let out a heavy sigh. " What does it matter what I say. What I have done is unforgivable and no amount of tears will ever wash the blood off my hands."
Kah’lyn gave her father a curious look, she could feel his remorse it was literally pouring off of him. “If you want to be part of my life then I want an answer.”
" Why would I want you in my life. I'm a monster who tried to have you brainwashed and i tried to kill my own granchild," he yelled with the ferocity of a man who had reached his breaking point long ago and it had now come crashing down around him. " That song that lizard played on the warbird was right. We are a dead people, a rotten soul clinging to a corpse as anything good and noble rots around us. "
More tears ran down his face as he scratched his face again bringing up tears of green blood. " WHY DIDN'T I TAKE HER HAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" He screamed so loudly bringing one of his fists down so hard you could hear bones breaking. Even Fulvia seemed to hear something from the sound barriar.
The thump made Kah’lyn jump, but she soon recovered from the surprise. “My mother? I never knew her. I was raised by a foster family, they took good care of me, but I wish I’d known real mother,”
Another long silence filled the room before the elder Romulan let out a small sob before he replied. " She was too good for this world. Too good for me. She offered me everything and I spat in her face. All because I wanted to be a good romulan."
“Then why did you do this to me? If you loved my mother so much then why betray that love?!” She took a deep breath. “Is being Romulan so important you betray the ones you love?”
"It's all I was taught. All that my father would drill into my skull every day and every night. That a good Romulan will sacrifice anything for the empire. " He croaked out. " And look what that got me. A crew that stabbed me in the back the first chance they get. A loveless marriage with a daughter who isn't mine, the star empire has disowned me and my name is worth less than the lowest slave. "
Kah’lyn stood silent for a moment. “You know what they did to me, can you help me? I don’t want to be forever worried that I’ve got some personality in my head waiting to break free. You can tell our medical staff what they need to know.”
" I'll do everything i can." the old Romulan replied softly. " It may be the only good thing I ever do in this life."
Kah’lyn nodded. “Thank you, I will speak with the medical staff.” She turned to leave but paused. “Do I matter to you? Honestly and truly matter?”
"You're the only thing i haven't managed to ruin. Don't try to save me girl i'm already dead." was all he manged to say.
Kah’lyn nodded. “If that is what you want, so be it.” She turned to leave before pausing. “I’ll have someone from medical come and talk to you.”
The old romulan said nothing as he continued to stare into the abyss.
" How did it go." Fulvia enquired from the security desk.
“My father has volunteered to help medical with my condition.” Kah’lyn offered an optimistic smile. “I guess that’s something.”
" It didn't go well i take it?" Fulvia replied knowing that look all to well.
Kah’lyn shook her head. “He’s full of regret and remorse for what he did to me, but he doesn’t want to be saved and I’m not in the mood to try!”
" At least he's talking. Do you want to talk?" She inquired.
Kah’lyn shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know what I want right now besides my baby back! The doctor was waiting for my body to reach full strength again, I’m hoping my check up later will allow it.”
" Hey, i'm sure you have them back soon enough." Fulvia replied reassuringly
Kah’lyn smiled. “I certainly hope so! You’re a mother, you know what it’s like to be without your child.”
Fulvia nooded. " I long to hold her again. Every day i’m apart feel like my hearts being ripped out."
“Exactly” Kah’lyn nodded. “I wasn’t planning a pregnancy but now I’ve accepted being a mother I just want my baby back inside me, and not in that artificial machine.”
" Just wait till labour then you'll be wishing the opposite." Fulvia jokily replied with a grin. " Come on let's get you home."
Kah’lyn nodded. “Thank you Fulvia, I appreciate your help.
