An unexpected letter

Posted on Fri Feb 24th, 2012 @ 1:40pm by Fleet Admiral Mike K`Wor Bremer & Lieutenant K`Wor

762 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Mission 78 - Colonial Uprising
Location: SB400
Timeline: Following Bremer's previous post

ON:

Following their meal together, Admiral Bremer and Acting Ensign K`Wor were both returning to Ops…

As they stepped out of the turbolift, the Admiral’s Yeoman, Petty Officer Aquilina de Luca handed him two PADDs and flashed her warm smile.

“Thank you.” Mike replied with a smile back to her.

He walked further into Ops as K`Wor took his position at Tactical Two.

“Everything okay?” The young Acting Ensign asked.

Mike nodded, “Starfleet has chosen not to continue with the Guardian class carriers. The ship that was to be named Enterprise-F is being renamed. No additional ships of the class will be constructed..”

K`Wor looked puzzled at his father, “Will they recommission the Enterprise-E then?”

“No, she’s too far along into her process of becoming the newest member of the Starfleet Museum. Another vessel, yet to be determined, will be named Enterprise.” Mike replied.

K`Wor nodded and turned back to his console as Mike headed into his Office. As he entered he walked strait to the food slot. Even though he was quite full from his meal, he still wanted something to drink…

“Raktajino.” He ordered, but quickly changed his mind, “No belay that computer.” He thought for a moment, then flashed a quick smile, “Earl Grey tea, hot, with a touch of honey.”

The food slot beeped and within a few seconds his cup of tea was ready. Captain Picard had introduced Mike to Earl Grey tea, but Mike didn’t care much for it at first. Having grown up, at least partly, in South Carolina he was used to sweet tea. By adding a touch of honey, he found he really enjoyed the hot beverage.

Bremer sat the PADD regarding the Enterprise to the side, he was going to send a message to the now retired Captain Picard but Mike wanted to have a look at the other PADD first. As he activated it, he was surprised to find it was a personal letter to him from none other than Edward Jellico.

The court martialled and now disgraced former Admiral had taken the time to write Admiral Bremer what appeared to be a heart felt apology. Mike took a seat on the sofa and leaned back. Jellico was once a well respected Captain known for his take charge attitude, always wanting his officers to `get it done`, which sometimes rubbed those officers the wrong way. He was also sometimes called arrogant, over confident, and closed minded, believing his opinion on a situation was always correct. His brief command of the Enterprise-D was an example of this. Promoted to Vice Admiral during the Dominion War, Jellico’s knowledge of the Cardassians proved vital on many occasions. Mike had met him during the war, and respected him even if they didn’t see eye to eye.

However Jellico faced personal loss during the war with the death of one of his sons. That loss seemed to change the man, instead of a head strong aggressive attitude, Jellico’s demeanor become more quiet. He pushed for an end to the war as soon as possible. After the war, Jellico was promoted to full Admiral and served at Starfleet Command.

When Admiral Bremer and the crew of SB400 found out Jellico was secretly working with the Romulans, giving them classified Starfleet logistical and tactical data, it was a surprise. Jellico admitted his guilt saying he only wanted to keep the status quo with the Romulans in hopes of stopping another conflict and loss of life before it happened. Unfortunately, the Romulans only fed Jellico false information, and used the data he provided to them to attempt to sabotage Starbase 400 and later attack the station…even though the Romulan Military claimed the attack carried out by rogue forces.

Jellico’s fall from grace was tragic, but at least from his letter, Mike could see that Jellico was truly sorry for what had happened. Mike sat the PADD beside him. He planned to send Jellico a reply, but at the moment he didn’t know what say. Jellico’s actions had directly and indirectly lead to the death of over one hundred members of SB400’s crew, the kidnapping of his wife and son, and later his wife’s retirement from Starfleet. Mike wanted to take a little time so he didn’t say something he shouldn’t.

Bremer stood up form the sofa and walked over to his desk and picked up the other PADD again. A letter to Picard would be much easier to write right now…
