Mission:
Mission 78 - Colonial Uprising
Location: SB400 Promenade
Timeline: Current
ON:
Mike was heading down to the Promenade to meet his son and get something to eat. As he stepped out of the turbolift onto the Promenade’s upper level, he saw K`Wor standing close to the Vulcan restaurant, reading the menu…
“Thinking about getting some plomeek soup?”
K`Wor looked back at his dad, “I don’t know, I thought about it. Never had it before. What are you going to get?”
“Think I’m going Klingon today. Gagh, Bregit lung, Pipius claw.” Been a while since I’ve had it. Mike replied.
A few minutes later, the two had their food and were sitting at one of the open dinning areas in the middle of `restaurant row`. K`Wor did get the plomeek soup, as well as an Earth ceaser salad, and Bajorian Ratamba stew. Mike did get the Gagh, Bregit lung, and Pipius claw, as well as some plomeek soup as well.
“Can I ask you a question?” K`Wor asked.
“Sure.”
“I’ve noticed over the years that your Klingon side has, well, become rather suppressed. I mean, recently with Toral you showed it, but in dealing with the Romulans you seemed more…laid back than I remember you being when I was growing up.” K`Wor commented.
“You’re right. Partly because of age and experience, but partly because of Vulcan meditation. Ever since learning we have Vulcan ancestors on my mother’s side too, I’ve taken an interest in many aspects of Vulcan society. Logic and meditation have helped with the…anger out bursts I’d sometimes have. I’ve also taken time to learn Vulcan martial arts, history, etc. Only thing I haven’t mastered yet is that neck pinch.” Mike replied with a smile.
K`Wor smiled, “Perhaps I should learn a little about the logic and meditation too, they might come in handy at the Academy.”
“Have you heard anything yet from admissions?” Mike asked.
“No sir. They told me it would be a few months unless a spot opened up, but so far none have. Looks like I won’t attend until next year.” K`Wor replied.
Mike nodded as he finished chewing, “That’s not a bad thing. Gives you more time to study…not everything at the Academy is about Starship operations.”
K`Wor nodded, “I know dad, you’ve told me. Please, don’t make this another `be prepared` lecture.”
Mike took a sip of his water, “I’m not, I just want you to be ready. I saw some brilliant cadets at the Academy when I was there, fail because they weren’t prepared or make bad decisions and it cost them. Sometimes with a reprimand in their Starfleet Record, some held back a semester, and a few expelled. I don’t want that to happen to you.”
K`Wor paused a moment, then looked back at his father, “Thanks dad.”
Mike smiled back. His son was growing up, and growing well. A few years before, the two probably would of finished the convocation with an argument instead of talking and listening though it. He was already proud of his son, and he knew his future was bright.
