Kah’lyn was working out on the holodeck, her usual rough and tumble program against the Klingons had been somewhat toned down due to her pregnancy even though the holodeck safeties would protect her from any real harm. Instead of her usual Klingon Bat’leth She was experimenting with the Klingon dagger, which to her was a foreign object. She was finding it awkward training with it.

In the holo-suite next door, Mike was picking himself up off the deck. He'd been riding back toward town when his horse, the surrounding area, everything vanished and the bare walls of the holo-suite were visible. He himself was back in uniform too.

He exited the holo-suite and looked around. The corridor had power, so did the suite next door. Mike tapped a few buttons and walked in.

He wasn't expecting to see Kah'lyn standing with Klingon weapons. He paused a moment before speaking, "Did this holo-suite lose power for a moment?"

Kah’lyn offered a shake of the head. “Not that I noticed Admiral, if the holodeck next door is malfunctioning I can take a look and see if I can sort it.” She put down the blade she was holding, she was fed up with trying to work with it, she much preferred a bat’leth.

"No, no...it's fine. I was done anyway." Mike replied.

He looked around for a moment, "Having trouble with the d'k tagh?"

Kah’lyn looked at the blade, “Something like that, I’m more used to the Bat’leth but given my condition I thought it better to try using the d’k tagh. It’s not really my thing.” She shrugged her shoulders.

Mike took the d'k tagh from Kah'lyn. He spun the weapon in his hand a moment, tossed it between hands, slashed out, then threw it against the wall where it stuck blade in. "A fine weapon. What are your issues with it?" Mike asked as he retrieved it.

“I’m just not used to handling a blade. I’m used to the swing and length of a bat’leth not the handling of a smaller more precise weapon like this” Kah’lyn shrugged her shoulders. “I just wanted something I can handle.”

"A d'k tagh is meant as a last resort defensive weapon, or as an assassin's weapon. Like the Kut'luch. Klingons have many different types of knives, some are specially made some are just less popular than the d'k tagh. Knowing how to sue them is essential. Think of it as an extension of your own arm. The moves should be smooth and deliberate." Mike then made several moves with the knife.

Kah’lyn watched curiously. “I didn’t know it was thought of in that way. So what would you recommend would be good for me, with the exception of a phaser!” She grinned. “Handling a bat’leth will prove difficult later on in my pregnancy, I’d still like to have a way of defending myself if I need it.”

"If you like the bat'leth, try the mek'leth, it's my favorite. It's smaller, easier to handle, bigger than a knife though so you can keep an enemy at a distance. It is best to practice with other weapons too. The computer has a good starter program for a d'k tagh. Show's you how to grip, different moves, defensive and offensive." Mike explained. "I think there's also chapters for the mek'leth and other weapons too."

Kah’lyn nodded and smiled. “Thank you Sir, I appreciate the advice. I think I’ll pick up another day, I’ve had enough of driving myself crazy for one day. I haven’t had a chance to say thank you, for accepting me and trusting me.” She sat down on a large flat topped rock. “To be honest I’m not sure how I’m supposed to act or feel around my ... father.” She sighed. “I always believed my father was dead, now I have a million questions and very few answers.”

Mike nodded. "It's not easy, and it's going to take some time, but take my advise, talk to him. He might be in the Romulan military but he is your father."

Mike turned toward the door, "You have earned my trust, just never betray it."

“I won’t, that’s a promise!” Kah’lyn stood ready to leave and head back to her quarters. “Besides it’s not just me anymore, I have Croesus and our child to think of now.”

Mike looked back and smiled, "Then you have your hands full."

With that Mike left the holo-suite.

Kah’lyn smiled to herself. “Computer ... End program.”
