Mission: Episode 108 – Tragedies, Fortunes, and an Endgame
Location: USS Cutlass
Timeline: MD3 - 1600hrs

ON:

“We’re out of their sensor range.” The Ensign at Flight Control said.

Roebuck paused a moment, “Cloak us and change course for Dreggs.”

“Yes sir. It’ll take us about an hour to get there.” The Ensign at Flight Control said.

“We’re cloaked.” Carter said.

“How will we know if they’re there, and not just meeting another ship, or changed course like we did.” Clayton asked.

“I know a guy.” Roebuck said.

Carter looked back at Roebuck for a moment, then his panel beeped. “We might have a problem.”

“What do you mean?” Roebuck asked.

Carter tapped a few buttons on the Tactical console. “The USS Grissom is entering the sector. They were on a scientific mission to the Barzan Wormhole.”

“They might scare of Saunders and make him run.” Clayton said.

Roebuck shook his head, “No, not Ramon. The Grissom is an Athena Class ship, they wouldn’t venture too clock to Dreggs, if they even know it’s there. Ramon knows that asteroid field better than anyone, he’d hide and wait for them to pass.”

“Well, he’s going to be hiding a while. The Grissom is moving slow, warp two. They look to be having trouble with their port nacelle.” Robinson added. “And they are between us, and the asteroid field.”

“Slow us to warp four. Have all decks to observe all silent running protocols.” Roebuck said.

“Can’t we enter the asteroid field at another point?” Clayton asked.

“Not a ship of our size. Even the main pass is small for us. I might be able to get us ten kilometers or so in before the field becomes too dense.” The Ensign at Flight Control said.

“No, the Cutlass will remain outside of the field. Carter and I will take a shuttle in.” Roebuck said. “As a matter of fact, Carter I need you to go to the shuttle bay and make one of the Type-9 shuttles look a little worse for ware.”

Carter paused for a moment, then nodded and stood.

A few minutes later he was in the shuttle bay holding a phaser rifle. He took aim at the starboard nacelle and fired. He then did the same along the side before one of the deck chiefs walked up.

“Lieutenant, may I just what the hell you’re doing to my shuttle?” The older Andorian asked.

“We’re need it to look old.” Carter said as he fired a long duration burst on a wide field, darkening a section on the aft door.

The Andorian cocked his head to the side. “Infiltration mission huh? Hold on.”

Carter smirked as he started on the other side of shuttle. After adding a few streaks he saw a blue tractor beam grab a section of the shuttle just to his right. The beam bowed out the outer hull just slightly. A moment later the beam grabbed onto another section of the hull and did the same near the rear.

A moment later the Andorian walked up again. “That should help a little. It’s not enough to damage the integrity.” He smiled at his work.

One more streak to the nose and Carter was proud of his work. He looked over at the Andorian, “Thank you.”

Back on the Bridge, the Grissom had slowed down and was still too close for the Cutlass to sneak by.

“Damnit.” Roebuck said.

“It looks like we’re replacing a warp coil and preparing to re-initialize their warp drive.” Robinson said.

A few minutes passed as the Grissom poked along at impulse. Finally, she shot away at warp.

“Warp four, fire, seven. We’re clear.” Robinson said.

Roebuck stood. “You have the Bridge Mister Robinson. Remain here, cloaked. If you haven’t heard from me in an hour get out of range of the field and contact President Matthews on the secure channel he used before.”

“Understood.”

A moment later, Roebuck was in the shuttle bay. He and Carter were changing out of the Starfleet uniforms into civilian clothing.

“Put this in your ear.” Roebuck said, handing Carter a small communications device. “It’ll keep an open encrypted channel between us and the ship while they remain within range.”

Carter placed it in his ear. “Can you read me.?”

“Affirmative.” Roebuck said.

“Won’t they be suspicious?” Carter asked.

Roebuck shook his head as he finished putting on a shoe. “Should be, half the people down there will have something similar.” He handed Carter a phaser then holstered his and covered it with his jacket. “Follow my lead when we get there.”
