Commander Elizabeth Yamaguchi was standing in the main hanger bay, she was in the middle of a conversation with the ships air boss and the ordinance officer. Yamaguchi stood silent as she cradled her right arm with her left hand, as she was deep in thought. She raised an eyebrow. "So. We don't have the space to carry a thousand quantum torpedoes to Starbase Sixteen...?" she inquired.
Yamaguchi's question halted the argument raging around her. "We can do it... But it'll take some doing." came the expected response from the air boss.
"It'll fill almost all of our cargo bays but the last forty warheads will need to be placed into shuttle bay two." the ordinance officer explained to Yamaguchi.
"I can't give you that space... I need it for my own guys." the air boss answered.
Yamaguchi found this argument intolerable. "Enough." she turned to the ordinance officer. "Load your ordinance in hanger two." she explained before she turned back to the air boss. "move the stuff that's been displaced into the main hanger." she paused. "At present, we're serving as a freighter and not as a Starfighter carrier."
The com system beeped. "Bridge to Yamaguchi?"
Elizabeth tapped her combadge. "Go ahead bridge.?" she asked.
"You have an alpha priority communication coming in from Starbase 400." came the unexpected response.
"Understood. I'm on my way up." Yamaguchi answered. "Gents. Get this mess cleaned up please." and with that, she turned and went off for her ready room.
A few minutes later. Elizabeth Yamaguchi entered her ready room, she went over to the large wall monitor. She sucked in a lungful of air as she tapped the display. Yamaguchi found herself looking into the warm eyes of an attractive Vulcan-looking woman. "Admiral. What can I do for you?"
Deela smiled, "I hope that I did not interrupt something important but I just received something that concerns you. So I thought I had better let you know."
Yamaguchi shook her head. "Nothing important ma'am," she answered. "You actually did me a favour in disguise... What can I do for you?" she added.
Good." She continued, "I just got word that you have been reassigned to Starbase 47. They are giving you time to prepare before you need to go.
"Aye Admiral..." Elizabeth paused. "A voyage out to Vanguard will take me six months at warp eight," she explained evenly. "I'll still be able to deliver this consignment to Starbase 16 then get what I need before I head off to Vanguard..." she paused. "Am I being relieved of the USS Thinin?"
"Not that I know of." She checked the PADD she was looking at, "I do not see anything that indicates they are. As for your reassignment is concerned, by the time you get there, Torilla will be there as well." She hadn't mentioned who else may be there.
A rather wide smile appeared on Elizabeth's face. "Nice. It'll be good to be working alongside mom again... Maybe I can help her overcome her demons... and maybe... We will have a better chance of finding Gabe... Dammit... I shouldn't have let you go alone..." she muttered the last sentence, referring to her brother.
"Well, there has been a recent development that you do not know about. Gabe has been found. Actually, he showed up on Starbase 400 but I will not go into detail. And one more thing, Gabe's kids, Nicole, Gideon and Arlene are alive and with your father."
Yamaguchi paused as she struggled to process the details of what she had just heard. Elizabeth's mouth twitched. "What..." she paused as she struggled to grasp what she had been told. "Gabe and my nieces and nephew are all alive?" she paused as she suddenly found herself fighting a sudden surge of intense emotion. "Mmm..." she paused as she took a moment to compose herself. "Thank you for sharing with me Admiral. You have no idea what this means to me."
"Oh. I know. I know! And although Gabe has lost his wife, he has 3 kids that need him and hopefully, it will give him and all of you some peace."
Yamaguchi had no idea of what to say on what she had just been told. "Wow... Gabe's alive... So are his kids... This is almost too good to be true..." she paused as she coughed softly, partly to clear her throat and to bring herself back to what she was doing. "I apologize, Admiral," Yamaguchi commented. "You bring me good news and it shatters my thought process..." she paused. "When does my new deployment take effect?" Yamaguchi inquired.
"In a week and a half but they know it'll take you a while to get there. I failed to mention that I will be reinstating Gabe and he will also be joining all of you there. And I have not talked to Rachael yet but the orders include her too." Where they went from there, she had no idea.
"So more or less... My entire family will be together on the same Starbase." Yamaguchi answered. "I'll name one of my daughters for you Admiral." she smiled. "It'll be good to see them again..."
Deela returned the smile, "I am sure it will be. They will be happy as well. I wish I could be there to see that but unfortunately, my plate is full."
"Its fine Admiral," Yamaguchi answered with a gentle smile. "We will make do..." she added.
"Good." She exhaled, "I have nothing else for you. Do you need anything while I am here?"
"No ma'am. Unless you have further orders for me?" Yamaguchi inquired.
"None." Deela smiled again, "Okay, you stay safe and good luck with your new assignment."
"Thank you, Admiral. Good luck to you." and with that, the transmission ended. Yamaguchi turned and went over to her desk as she processed the news of her brother and his children.
