Walking into the crew lounge Kah’lyn stood looking at the choice of foods on offer, she wasn’t sure what would settle her stomach and what would make her feel sick. She hadn’t been planning a baby and she hadn’t read a thing about it yet but she intended to learn.

She saw Xalanth and knowing from their last conversation that he was a father she thought maybe he could give some useful advice. “Excuse me Lieutenant” she smiled as she approached him. “I wondered if I might ask your advice? You see I’m pregnant and I don’t have a clue what’s good for settling the stomach during the morning sickness stage and I would really appreciate some help!” She gave Xalanth an apologetic look as she realised she’d rambled on a bit.

Xalanth had been looking out back towards the station when Kah'lyn brought him out of his wondering. " Well first thing congratulations my friend." he said with a smile forming over his reptilian face. " I'll offer whatever advice I can, but all three of my mates had different reactions to morning sickness. Here take a seat it will be easier."

Kah’lyn smiled and nodded. “Thank you, I’m sorry I blurted all that out at you. This is all so new to me! It’s just this morning sickness, I completely hate it!”

" There no need to apologize my friend. I've had to help three women through it and it was a shock for them as well. " He said taking a seat. " May i ask who the father is. I know it sounds rude, but my first T'para got a craving for a slice of dried meat native to my homeworld when she was carrying Yazar."

Kah’lyn nodded. “It’s Croesus” she smiled warmly. “This baby is going to be a mix of Human, Romulan and Klingon, I’m not sure what that means for any cravings. I’m only six weeks so I need to get a grip on this so I can carry on my duties normally.”

" Well, that does help a little. Now my mates have all used different things to help with the morning sickness. T'para found a Vulcan herbal tea to help settle her stomach. Leilani found strawberry ice cream did the trick and Fulvia found a special blend of garum worked for her."

“Well I could try those in turn and see if they work I guess.” Kah’lyn smiled. “I know nothing of Romulan food or drink, Humans i’ve Heard go by ginger and as for Klingons” she shrugged her shoulders, “I’ll have to ask Croesus about that one.”

"Ginger would be a good place to start if those don't work. " the lizard stated. " I wish T'para was here she the medical genius not me."

Kah’lyn smiled. “Well I’m grateful for all suggestions. Admiral T’Lar needs us all at our best and I don’t want to be slipping up and making any errors at a time when mistakes could cost lives.”

" She does and I'm sure you won't slip up. You ae looking after two of you now." He said warmly.

Kah’lyn gave Xalanth a concerned look. “I have this nagging feeling ...” She paused. “One that says Croesus doesn’t trust me. I’ve had it ever since the incident with the Romulan ship, and Croesus’ own investigation showing we weren’t alone during that time. I’m not sure he believes me when I say I don’t remember what happened. As a security officer what would you do or say?”

" Did you go to the councilors like i suggested last time?" The lizard inquired

Kah’lyn frowned. “I was going to but I ... didn’t. I don’t know why I didn’t go” She sighed. “Dammit! What’s wrong with me!?” She shook her head clearly annoyed at herself.

The dragonian tapped his fingers a few times as he thought through the idea in his head. " Tell you what. How about when we get back to the station i take you to the councilors myself and see you in?" He suggested though he was thinking of another idea that was in the back of his mind.

Kah’lyn nodded. “I think that would be a good idea.” She offered a smile. “I need to get myself sorted out.” She gave him a curious look. “Do me a favour? Stay outside so I can’t run away!” She grinned.

" I will. Would you like me to take a look at your case as well? Maybe a fresh pair of eyes could find something others missed." he added wanting to take a look at the investigation's report.

“Please!” Kah’lyn nodded. “I think it needs an independent evaluation, a fresh pair of eyes to look it over.”

" I'll ask Fulvia to start having a look other as soon as i can and take a look myself when we get back. If anyone can find anyhting the investigation officers missed it will by my third. Besides she's having to take it easy given her pregnancy." the lizard said thinking back of the magna roman mate of his waiting back on the station.

“How long does she have to go?” Kah’lyn looked at Xalanth curiously. “It must be difficult being away from her.”

" Seven months. We only just found she was pregnant." the lizard replied.

“I always wanted to have kids” Kah’lyn smiled. “I just never imagined I’d find myself someone like Croesus and end up having a baby so soon! Not that I’m complaining.” She smiled warmly. “The one thing I don’t want is for him to feel that he has to leap to my defence at the slightest hint of danger, that would put his life in jeopardy and I would never forgive myself if something happened to him. Does being an expectant father make you feel you have to protect your wife from all dangers, no matter how small?”

The lizard nodded. " I always feel protective of my mates and the daughters they have born me. I know in my bones my mates can defend themselves, but I always worry about them. How my people's females can leave their eggs in the great incubators is beyond me. "

“They leave eggs in an incubator?” Kah’lyn looked surprised, “I guess I shouldn’t find that surprising given that you’re a reptilian species. Let’s hope you can get back to your mate soon.”

The lizard nooded. " My own clan has three great stone incubators scattered around the great deserts. Every time we pass one we drop off fresh eggs and collect any young that have hatched. It needed to help keep the planet's population at a stable growth level."

Kah’lyn nodded. “So do parents raise their own young? Or do you share responsibility for each other’s young?” Kah’lyn was getting more and more curious by the moment.

" A bonded group raises there young though the offspring are told who their egg mother is. So it can be a total of seven dragonians raising the eggs from six. " Xalanth explained.

“Wow! That’s quite some way of keeping a population going.” She smiled. “So will you and your mate raise your child on the station? I can’t even imagine what it would be like to have to give up your child.”

" Hopefully things will calm down so i can bring my whole family here. Fulvia has already bore me Amrar and she's being raised back on my peoples homeworld by my First and seconed who are part of the fedration diplomatic team." The lizard said his voice showing the pain of there sepration.

“It’s obvious how much you love and miss then Xalanth. I hope you get the chance to be reunited.” She offtered a hopeful smile. “I’m looking forward to being a mum, I know I’ll have to work my career around it but I’ll work that out and I have Croesus too.”

" I'm sure you'll be a great mother. If you need any help or advice just feel free to ask." He replied reassuringly.

“I will, thank you Xalanth.” Kah’lyn smiled warmly. “I guess I should be getting back, I’ll figure out the whole what’s best to eat thing as I go along.”

" Take care then. Remember there's two of you now." The lizard said as returned to his own food.

“Thank you and don’t worry I won’t be forgetting that anytime soon” Kah’lyn smiled and nodded. Now she had an idea of foods that might help her morning sickness she chose a quick something to try and headed back to work.
