The 23 was not the 400 but it was a job and Croesus was happy to have it. Running his itinerary he saw a new name appear on the duty roster, Ltjg Kah'lyn Chiara. Looking around the ops station he spied what he hoped was she.

Kah’lyn was doing what came naturally now she was actually cleared to work. She was looking forward to actually getting to Starbase 400 but right now that wasn’t happening. She smiled as she turned to see another Officer looking in her direction.

Croesus being half human and Klingon didn't think it odd to see the young lady. But inwardly her attraction was mesmerizing.

" Lieutenant Kah'lyn? I am Lt Commander Croesus . .Chief Ops officer."

“Sir!” Kah’lyn stood to attention before relaxing her posture a little. “It’s nice to finally get to meet you Sir. I apologise for not coming and finding you, I wanted to get on with my duties.”

" Noble approach but Ops sticks together. We are in new surrounds Lieutenant and our fleet is in constant rotation in,and out. I will check you out...I mean your record later. Tomorrow I want you to take this Padd and check off personally that the ships on this list are moored where they say they are. I am doing page 2 of that list. Once we have done that the repairs begin. Just keep me in the loop, any hour of the night Lieutenant." Croesus ordered.

< Sometime later >

Croesus had exhausted himself tracking down each ship and vessel on his list. Before eating a night meal he opted to unwind in the holodeck. Frustrated that it had a reserved lock on it Croesus looked around to see if that person was in the waiting area.

Kah’lyn was just preparing to enter the holodeck when she saw Croesus. “Were you wanting to use the holodeck Sir?”

" I always use the holodeck to unwind before last meal. But if it is reserved for you by all means go first Lieutenant." Croesus replied.

Would you...like to join me Sir?” Kah’lyn smiled. “I’ve been taking a lesson or two with Admiral Bremer, if you’d be interested in sparring with bat’leths I’m happy to have you join me.”

" Admiral Bremer spars? Yes Lieutenant I would be honored to spar with you. " Croesus smiled. Entering the arch he programmed his own course for them to engage in.

" Targ valley Qo'nos home of my clan. We will be on the same team against the house of Durass." Croesus instructed.

“Sounds good to me!” Kah’lyn smiled warmly. “I like to work up a sweat playing against tough opponents!”

" The Durass have no honor...even holographic ones. Lets begin now. Computer replay the Targ Offensive...."

AFFIRMATIVE.

The holodeck became a valley of smoke and death rot smells as Croesus and Kah'lyn joined a party of warriors.

Kah’lyn was impressed she hadn’t joined such a realistic simulation before, just her own more sedate sparring program. She gripped her bat’leth tightly ready for anything.

" You are my chad'ich my second. Up ahead we will face Dkal's forces. Do not allow them to circle around us." Croesus explained.

Kah’lyn nodded. “I’ll do my best.” As they reached their destination she was surprised to see what awaited them. This was going to be harder than she thought, but she relished the challenge.

A large figure jumped out from behind and challenged their approach. Flowed by two others from their clan.

" A weakling half breed. It is a good day for you to die Romulan," the old man challenged Kah'lyn.

The older man lunged at Kah'lyn while the two others engaged Croesus. Clashing bat'leths sounds filled the hollow as the battle began.

Kah’lyn practically growled aloud as she starting fighting her opponent, she remembered what Admiral Bremer had taught her about defending against a Klingon opponent. A big smile crossed her face as she successfully defended herself, the hard part was yet to come as she discovered when she was faced with two more opponents. “Bring it on!” She swung her bat’leth and waited.

Croesus over powered and slayed the first but the second one was much powerful and began a vicious assault on him causing real blood to flow from his side injury. Croesus then did the unimaginable as he pulled his Klingon phaser and fired at the approaching enemy, rendering him dead. Crawling then up to one knee, Croesus managed a smile.

" There is no dishonor in bringing a phaser to a knife fight." Croesus joked.

Kah’lyn caught up with Croesus. Her beaming smile soon faded as she noticed he was bleeding. “Are you hurt?!” She gave him a wry look considering she was pretty beaten and bruised herself. “The holodeck safeties should be on! Or so I thought.”

" Me too. If this was the 400 they would be. Starbase 23 is slacking. Thanks for sharing with me. I'm going to go mend my wounds then eat." Croesus replied.

“Are you going to Sickbay or would you like some help patching that up?” Kah’lyn looked at Croesus. “I’m not a nurse but I can help if you need it?”

Croesus smiled.

" Oh I'll need some help . Did you ever play Doctor Kah'lyn? My father is human and he taught me a lot of Earth games." Croesus replied.

“Doctors and nurses huh?” Kah’lyn grinned. “I’ve played that one before, from what I remember it can be quite fun!” She motioned towards the doorway. “Let’s get out of here, I’ll file a report about the holodeck safeties being off.”

Croesus leaned on her slightly for a moment as the pain to his right side did actually hurt. Down the hall and into the lift the two glared deep into one anothers eyes.
