"There she is..." realising he was essentially speaking to himself, Jared brought his ship to a stop just within transporter range of the SS Roane. Beyond that, Starbase 23 loomed big and large and he was sure the sensors on said base had been tracking his arrival for quite some time. Not to worry, he would be gone soon.
Slipping out of the chair, he moved into the back, kneeling down beside the makeshift cot he had prepared. "Time to go, kid," he said, pressing a hypo to her neck to bring her round. Just as he was beginning to worry she began to open her eyes. He smiled, "I sent a message, saying you were wanting to beam aboard."
She held up a hand and he gripped it firmly, helping her up. Feeling how much of a struggle it was, he hesitated. "Are you sure about this Korel? I think the wound, maybe it's infected... I'm willing to take you to the Starbase..."
She knew how much that offer cost him but she stubbornly shook her head. As they got to the tiny transporter pad she held onto the wall for support as he moved away. Every inch of her ached, but she knew Korel would help her. "I'm sure. I think we are kind of a crew."
Her eyes locked on the Roane, remembering the last time she had seen not just Korel but his trusty companion. She didn't want to admit it, but she had missed them....
Starbase 400, four weeks earlier, during evacuation
Korel and H'rall quickly loaded the alloted needs from the stations store and prepared the SS Roane for launch. Vortress, very pregnant, also boarded and escorted the passengers to their quarters. As this was a no frills run minimal foods were available.
" Skye this is Korel are you with us on this journey?"
“As if you could ditch me,” a voice commented from behind them. Standing there in a pair of jeans, white vest and black leather jacket, a smudge of dirt on her cheek, she flashed them a bright smile, “another adventure, huh, Kitty?”
Walking up to them she peered past them at the civilians who were now taking refuge aboard. "Hope they don't find the stash of blood wine," she commented before looking up at Korel, "what do you need?"
H'rall yowled and hugged her.
"You missed me, huh?" Skye grinned. She looked at Korel, "I'm happy to help, whatever you need. This is a lot of people."
" We were comendered by Admiral Bremer. Evacuating the system from imminent attack. Three sets of onvoy families and
a few straglers. I plan to host as if it was a normal cruise. Vortress is running the galley." Korel replied.
H'rall pushed through the crowd and hearded folks to make way for them to come through.
" We're needed on the bridge."
"She isn't just going to have Klingon food, is she?" Skye queried as she followed along behind them. "Are the replicators still working?"
" Vortress is nesting. The Plan is to take these folks to a safe system and to await orders from Bremer." Korel replied. " We need to find a safer place to take these souls. Any suggestions?" Korel asked Skye.
”I heard some were going to Rigel or the rest of the fleet is going to SB 23. I’d go for it,” Skye shrugged. “Rigel isn’t high on my list of places to visit again.”
" Nor is it mine. H'rall lay in a course for Starbase 23. Skye if you will make sure our shields and defensive weapons are online, I want to get there in one piece." Korel replied.
“Done and done,” she promised. “And maybe later we can have some of that blood wine?”
Korel smiled with his teeth," You do have a taste for the finer things Skye. The wine is in your quarters, I will be on the bridge with H'rall."
present time
The sound of the transporter filled the air, a form taking shape on the transporter pad aboard the Roane. Just the smell of the place was instantly familiar as well as the two people who were waiting to greet her.
"Hey Kitty, miss me?" she breathed as what was left of her strength left her and she passed out, vaguely aware of something softer then the deck breaking her fall before everything went dark.
