ON:
Morning dawned on Starbase 400, seeming to be a new beginning. Mike stood at the windows in the bedroom of his and Janice's Quarters. He watched as the sun rose from behind Kaleb IV. It was only 0530 hours, but Mike had been able to get a night's sleep for the first time in weeks. Mike leaned his neck to one side, then the other, 'cracking' it and getting the muscles loose. After taking a few deep breaths, he turned back around and grabbed a tshirt and shorts from his drawer and put them on. He had two hours before he wanted to be in Ops, so he decided to head down to the gym for a morning workout.
Once he arrived at the gym, he said hellos to other crewmembers that were already there, before stretching and loosening up. Once loose and relaxed, he headed over to the gravity weights for some bench presses and squats. He quickly worked up a sweat, pushing himself, he could feel the burn in his arms and legs and it was a welcome feeling...especially after all the mental working he'd done lately.
Following the weights, Mike headed over to one of the Holosuites in the gym and called up his Klingon calisthenics program. Mike hadn't brought a weapon with him, so he programmed a few in at various locations, forcing him to fight hand-to-hand until he found one. As the program started, Mike found himself in a tropical jungle setting. The heat and humidity were both high, making it feel like a sauna. As Mike crept along, he heard something moving up ahead. A moment later, a humanoid jumped forward with a bladed weapon, similar to a Jem Hadar halberd. The hulking ogre-like monster from Klingon mythology had an exoskeleton, dark eyes, and stood about the same height as Mike. He took a swing that Mike was able to duck and roll to the side. As the creature turned to face Mike, Mike jumped to his feet and met him with a fist across the face. Catching him off guard, Mike was able to add an additional punch in before grabbing him with both hands and slamming him into a tree. As the creature stumbled, Mike stepped back and delivered a round-house kick, sending him to the ground. As Mike stood, the comm-system sounded...
"Admiral Bremer, please report to Ops."
As Mike acknowledged, the creature reached up and grabbed Mike, trying to pull him to the ground too. Shifting his weight, Mike kept his balance, grabbed him by the back of the head, and drove his knee into the creature's nose. Then, sliding around behind him, Mike places his hands on each side of his opposite's head, and with a quick and powerful twist, broke his neck.
Mike stood as he let go of his foe. As it dropped to the deck with a flop, then shimmered away...
"Computer, end program." Mike said.
As the program ended, Mike his the comm-panel, "Bremer here." He replied to Ops.
"Admiral, three Romulan ships have been spotted along the Federation border, they decloaked inside the Neutral Zone." The reply came from Ops, Lieutenant Gilmore.
"Copy that, awake the Senior Staff and have them report to Tactical Astrometerics, I'm on my way." Mike closed the comm.
There wouldn't be time for a shower, he'd have to get one in his Office after the briefing. As Mike rode in the turbolife up toward deck two, he ran though several possibilities of what could be happening. Perhaps they were testing to see how fast Starfleet would respond to the encroachment of the Neutral Zone. Perhaps they were there to talk peace and ask for Federation help...even though doing so in this way seemed odd. Perhaps they wanted to defect too, as Commander Tamarith had. Mike needed to know.
He decided to send two ships, Vice Admiral Stryfe with the Alabama, as the Diplomatic Officer, maybe he could talk to the Romulans and find a peaceful solution to whatever they had in mind. He also would send Captain Mark with the Luna, as the Intel Officer, perhaps he could gather some information on the current state of the Romulan Star Empire.
As Mike arrived, most of the Senior Staff was already gathering in Tactical Astrometerics. Once everyone arrived, Mike informed them of the Romulans ships, and his plan to send the Alabama and Luna. Lieutenant Gilmore was also there, and confirmed that the Romulans ships were not responding to hails from the station, but that they hadn't moved either.
"Captains Andrews, Mark, Harrison, Vice Admiral Stryfe, Commanders Pike and Winter, Sogh M'Kota, Ensign Driggett, Lieutenant Commander Watkins, and Lieutenant Colonel Sosuke please stay a moment, everyone else is dismissed." Mike said as the briefing ended.
The Officers whose names were called remained...
After a moment Mike continued, "Harrison I want the station on Yellow Alert, if the Romulans do make a move, I want enough warning that we can launch support ships. Sosuke, fighter sweeps, keep two airborne at all times, two on hot standby, and the last in reserve. Watkins, I want you with me, we're going to meet with Commander Tamarith, see if there is anything she is willing to share with us about the current state of the Romulan Military or Government." Mike paused a moment
"Andrews, I want you going as well, aboard the Alabama, your expertise on the Romulans and the Neutral Zone maybe needed, you'll be acting as Vice Admiral Stryfe's XO on this mission. Pike, I want you aboard the Luna as Mark's XO. M'Kota, Tactical aboard the Luna. Driggett, Conn aboard the Alabama." Maintain Yellow alert, but do not act provocatively, talk to the Romulans, see what their intentions are, but be ready just in case. Winter, have the Saratoga ready to assist, maintain orbit of the station, ready to assist if called upon."
"Keep your eyes and ears open on this one. Good luck." Mike nodded to his Officers then headed for Ops.
OFF: Okay, since posting is slowed...again...here's a little something for most of you to do. If I didn't included you, you can still post about what your character is doing on the Station.
