Mission:
Mission 78 - Colonial Uprising
Location: SB400 Promenade
Timeline: Current..around 1300 hours
Melody wakes up, takes a shower and gets dressed. She straps her antique hunting knife's sheath around her ankle and covers it with her pant leg. She secures the Blaze and heads down the docking bay tube. The docking officer stops her as she exits the tube.
"Excuse me, Miss Johnson," the docking officer says stepping away from his post and walking up to Melody.
Melody rolls her eyes. "Can't anyone get it right?" She thinks to herself. Under her breath she mumbles, "that's Captain Johnson."
"Someone left this for you," the Star Fleet officer says, holding out an envelope. "I took it this time but I am a Star Fleet officer and not a concierge"
Melody takes the envelope from the docking officer. "Sorry about that," she says with a sheepish smile. She opens the envelope and a small gold medallion falls out into the palm of her hand. She stares at it for several seconds then, without looking up, she asks, "who gave this to you?"
"He didn't leave his name," the officer answers "And I've never seen him before. All I can tell you is he was Arkarian."
"Arkarian?" Melody says more as a statement than a question and she frowns.
The deck officer sees the look on her face and asks, "Is everything all right?"
"Yeah. Fine," Melody says absentmindedly and walks down the corridor to the turbo lift that will take her to the starbase's promenade's mezzanine. She steps into the turbolift and absentmindedly says, "promenade," then shoves the medallion into her pants pocket. When the doors of the turbolift open with a whispering hiss, Melody steps out and walks to the railing of the mezzanine and looks down at the Promenade. After several minutes she spots a male Arkarian sitting alone at one of the tables outside of one of the small bistros. She can't see his face because he is sitting with his back to her but she knows who he is. With a furrowed brow she descends the stairs to the main Promenade and quietly walks toward the bistro. She walks, purposefully, up to the Arkarian's table and sits down across from him. Before he has time to react she asks softly, "what do you want, Mirren?"
"Good morning, Captain. You look well," Mirren says.
"Forget the pleasantries, Mirren. What do you want?" Melody asks again.
"Straight to the point. I've always liked that about you," Mirren says, leaning across the table so he can be heard without being overheard. "I need your help."
"I'm not interested," Melody says and starts to get up from the table.
Mirren reaches out and grabs her wrist to stop her. "In case you've forgotten....you owe me," he says and looks her straight in the eyes. He gives her wrist a squeeze. "Now let's not make a scene....shall we?" Melody glares at him and, reluctantly, sits back down.
The two talk...Mirren doing most of the talking...for some time then Mirren gets up and leaves the bistro, disappearing into the crowd. Melody sits at the table for several minutes...staring blankly into the crowd where Mirren has disappeared. Finally, she gets up and walks...almost robotically to the stairs and slowly ascends to the upper level of the Promenade then she heads for her tavern. She walks inside and calls out for her manager and informs him that she's leaving him in charge then she leaves the tavern and heads back to the Blaze. She goes directly to her bunk and lays down on her back and stares blankly at the ceiling...deep in thought.
