Hurry Up and Wait

Posted on Fri Sep 30th, 2011 @ 6:51pm by Lieutenant Colonel Sosuke Ishihara

299 words; about a 1 minute read

Mission: Mission 77 - No Time for the Dishonored
Location: USS Yorktown - Bridge
Timeline: Present - 8 hours out from USS Aegean

Sosuke, seated at the horseshoe-shaped conn station on the bridge of the Defiant Class USS Yorktown, would much rather have been tucked into the tiny cockpit of his fighter. However, he did have to admit to himself that the ship he was currently piloting was going to get him there a lot faster at warp, and would have much bigger guns to bring to bear on the enemy if they ended up finding one to shoot at when they got there. He supposed it was better than being at the controls of a behemoth cruiser like the Pegasus, which he could see leading the formation ahead of them on the viewscreen. The small, hard-hitting Defiant Class was more like a fighter than a starship, and he certainly intended to fly it like one. He recorded a text-only message with one hand and sent it off to Lieutenant Commander Smith down in engineering, requesting that the inertial dampening field be strengthened a bit in case a battle situation was going to occur. He didn't want to accidentally fly the ship apart trying to pull off maneuvers more suited for a fighter craft.

It would be awhile yet before they made contact with the Aegean, so Colonel Ishihara got up, leaving the conn station to an ensign who walked over to take his place. At eight hours out, Sosuke could afford to rest up, check on the flight leaders and 181st pilots back over on the Saratoga and other ships, and get something to eat before coming back to the bridge by the time the Yorktown left warp. He gave Captain K'Temoc a short but respectful nod as he made his way off of the bridge and headed toward the tiny bunk he'd been assigned for the duration of his stay.
