Location: Crew Quarters, Hades, Starbase 400
Timeline: MD 08 2300 hours

ON:

Just before midnight Hades stumbled into his quarters. He sighed, several surgeries, one on a friend, a death, and a couple of near deaths all in one night. He was exhausted.

Stripping off his uniform he went straight to the bathroom and stepped under the warm spray of water. He had never been so glad that he’d opted for a water shower. There was something invigorating and uplifting about water. He let it wash away the grime of the day for a long while before turning the shower off and stepping out.

Now showered he slipped into his pyjama bottoms. It was a hot night, his climate control was acting up so he’d opt for just pants tonight and then he’d call OPS in the morning to look at the climate regulator in his quarters. The bedroom was a bit cooler and he used cool thermal sheets that kept his bed just at the right temperature. Just as he was about to lay down and sort this thoughts the door chimed.

A spark of electricity shot through his body and in an instant he knew who it was. The very person he had been thinking about, the one he’d wanted here by his side.

“Enter,” he called.

The door swooshed open and he took in the vision that floated in. “I’m…I’m sorry I know it’s late. I felt like… well like you needed me.”

He smiled and took her hand in his. He led her outside his quarters and let the door close and lock. Hades turned her towards the door and stood behind her slipping his hands around her waist. He whispered the code in her ear his lips brushing her lobes and making her stomach fill with happy butterflies.

As she entered the last digit the door whooshed open and he took her hand and led her back inside. “This is your home now too. I want you to come and go as you please.”

Hades knew he’d said something wrong the moment he’d finished speaking.

“Okay,” she said quietly, her eyes downcast.

“I said something wrong didn’t I?”

She shook her head but thanks to the link they now shared he could sense the truth. He could see it in her, she was an open book. Her refusal to look at him was a dead giveaway.

Gently he cupped his beloved’s face, “tell me.” The last thing he wanted was to hurt her.

As she raised her eyes to meet his he could see the sheen of unshed tears. “Come and go as I please but not stay. You’re still hoping I change my mind.”

Hades felt like kicking himself.

“K’diwa,” he began using the endearment that meant half of my heart and soul in Vulcan. “I’m not hoping you change your mind. I’m hoping you don’t. I realized something this evening. I treated a Klingon woman this evening and she passed away. I saw how devastated her husband was. This big Klingon was huddled in a corner weeping as if he were a child. I thought what if that had been you and I felt as if I had a dagger thrust into my heart. I knew in that instance that I could not exist here without you nor would I want to. This may have been quick but meeting you was like meeting the lost part of my Katra.”

Hades watched as tears cascaded over her cheeks and onto his fingers. Before he could say anything else she launched herself into his arms and he held her tightly feeling for the first time complete yet breathless; excited yet overwhelmed; scared yet comforted. He knew he didn’t want this moment to end.

He pulled away. “I want you to stay but not fully, not yet. I want to do this right. I want to register our marriage with Vulcan first. Once recognized I want us to have a Starfleet ceremony; one we design. I picked you as my mate, my wife, not for now but for all times and beyond. I want you to have the experience of an engagement and planning a wedding, one that will be a combination of who you are and who I am, and who we are together. I want your friends there, my friends, I want to give you the world and all the stars in it. You deserve more than a mind link and a night in the desert that was driven by a blood fever neither of us could control.”

She smiled at him through her tears of joy.

Hades brought his lips to hers softly, tenderly and then pulled back holding her hands. “Stay with me tonight. I need you.”

She gave a nod and the two retired to the bedroom falling asleep in one another’s arms knowing that there was no place either of them would rather be.
