The start of a long day

Mission: Episode 97 - Cultural Exchange
Location: Holodeck
Timeline: MD8 0840hrs

32 minutes, 35 seconds...

Sitting down on the trunk of a fallen tree, Carolyn glanced at her time as she took a welcome drink of cool water. Reaching up she swept her hair a few stray strands of hair away from her face, alonging herself to just enjoy the view for a long moment. The morning air was crisp, refreshing and perfect after a cross country run that had led to here.

She was entirely sure where here was, but she didn't care.

When she was in school, she had joined the cross country team just like her brother and sister had done before her. While she enjoyed the team aspect of it, the use of the same courses over and over became boring. And so her brother had made her this programme.

More of a tinkerer than a runner any day of the week, he had given it to her as a leaving present when she was about to go on her first mission. Every single time she ran it, something in the programme would change, either completely or in subtle ways. But it staved off boredom on the rare occasions she decided to go on a proper run.

Sitting there, breathing hard, she looked out at a world of vivid colour all the way to mountains in the distance, a layer of snow visible before cloud cover obsquered the view. It was nice and peaceful and she had another hour to enjoy it if she wanted. And then...

Then she didn't know about. She was already wanting to go back to work but knew that would not be an option. Three days. Three actual whole days - although between her appointment and then follow up, Ariana had managed to let her cut that down to two and a half. Which had been pushing it, judging from Hades expression when she got back to sickbay after visiting the counsellor's quarters.

After that she had gone back to her quarters, waiting for them to get back to the station. Today she would maybe do some shopping, although she could think of nothing she wanted other than maybe a time machine to go back and punch a certain Cardassian doctor in the face while she had the chance. Although she did still need to say a proper thank you to Braxton.

Deciding that would have to be on her list of things to do, she took another drink, reset the stopwatch, hauled herself back to her feet and set off back the way she had come.

It was going to be a long day.
