Promenade Deck-Intergalactic Mechanics

Klaus was off duty, so he went to the prominade deck with the intention of finding a new book to read. It was good to be out of uniform from time to time. He often spent his time unwinding to a good book, that is when he was not performing any unauthorized modifications to his ship. He picked up an ancient fictional work called "Dragon Riders of Pern." Satisfied with his purchase, he was just about to grab something to eat when the name of a new shop caught his eye. "Intergalactic Mechanics". That very name indicated a possible parts, or repair shop for either land, or space borne vehicles. He entered the shop, and noticed tool displays, as well as displays of old power converters. This shop now garnered his interest.

Camron came out of the shop his hoverchair glidng silently over the floor. "Hello sir how can I help you today." Said Camron from behind the counter he was up high enough no one could tell he was in a chair which suited him fine the last thing he needed was pity from his customers.

"Just taking a look around the new shop. " Klaus pointed out a display case of parts. "I bet there is a story behind those Cetis CS-2 power converters. If I remember correctly, the classic Type 2 Shuttle used those."

"Yah there is a story alright those particular converters have traveled a long way and likely have a few more light years in them before I am finished." Said Camron here was a man after his own heart and someone who at least had an idea how to actually talk shop.

"Well, if you ever have the time, I would like to hear that story." Klaus said. Since he often thought out of the box when he experimented on modifications, he had a feeling that this man could be consulted to. "I am willing to bet that you are a master of improvised engineering. "

"I would not say a master for the simple reason that you are always learning in this line of work. THough the guys back at SFCE liked my umm unorthidoxed modifications at least they did after they actually figured out how the heck I did what I did." Said Camron fondly. "As for that story if you have the time we are not all that busy maybe I can show you around and maybe I will tell you about those converters." he added with a grin

Gunther offered a handshake, "I am Klaus, nice to meet you. I have time."

Cameron extended his hand over the counter and shook klauses hand firmly. "Cameron is my name. Give me just one sec oh and you might want to watch your head.". Said Cameron he touched a couple buttons on his chair and the whole thing rose up and flew over the counter. He then proceeded to glide to the door and put the closed sign out. " follow me and I will show you around who knows you might see a few more things." He added as he headed toward the back of shop.

Klaus did not see a disability at work. What he saw was an engineering marvel in the homespun hover chair that just flew over his head. Without saying a word, he followed Cameron deeper into the shop.

Cameron looked at the man walking beside him. "I suppose since you saw it your wandering just what the heck I did to this chair. all told it is a pretty powerful piece considering. Like you saw I built in some heavy antigrav units as well as a small forcefield generator, nothing major but large enough that if I ever needed to I could as the fighter jocks say plow the road. We do not have anything in here right now so feel free to take a look around just please be careful some of this equipment is older then you are but it is paid for so I keep using it. Helps to keep the overhead down." Said Cameron calmly as he lead the other man to the small airlock at the far end of the shop. "I am sure you heard or saw that I arrived in my own ship well like the equipment here she is old but well cared for a shelby class runabout. and my personal pride and joy." He added as they neared the airlock.

"You have done a remarkable job on that chair." Klaus said, as they continued to walk. He also recognized some of the diagnostic equipment as museum pieces, with the newest on dating back a few decades. "A Shelby Class?!? I have heard of them, but never had the pleasure to see one of those classics. Did you manage to stabilize the main power coupling on her?"

"At first no it took me a while I finally ended up replacing the main coupling with a custom fabrication piece and more then a little brute force but she runs like a champ. Though I doubt that when the SFCE gave her to me as a gift that they though I would ever take her out of the solar system. At impulse speeds she is as fast or slightly faster then a danuabe and thanks to some vectored thrusters she can turn as tight or tighter then a broadsword class fighter. Though I would not recommend doing so unless it were and emergency. Something about the forward frame rails not being able to handle the stress. I have plans to solve that but have not had the time nor can I find the right pieces to use." Said Cameron as he looked around absently. "Oh and in case you want to send me some business someday I work on or at least am certified to work on anything from a ground car to a danuabe class runabout. including all of starfleets fighters though don't tell the engineers that they might have a heart attack." He added with a chuckle.

Klaus smiled, "If you only knew. I might be guilty of some unauthorized modifications myself. "

The pair continued to tour the shop. Klaus knew for sure, that he would be seeking some unauthorized consulting, at the very least. As the old Earth saying goes, "This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
