Mission: Episode 96 - A Visitor From the Past
Location: Starbase 400, Ops
Timeline: MD1, 1145Hrs

ON:

The lights were dim in Ops as Mike paced between the Science and Tactical positions. The main viewer was fixed on a massive ion storm that was making its way through the Kaleb system and would pass close to Kaleb IV and Starbase 400. Mike had ordered all of the station’s support ships that were in system to dock, powered down, and secured with docking clamps within SB400’s docking bay. The station itself was on minimal power and its orbit adjusted so it was on the far side of Kaleb IV as the storm passed.

Several freighters and a handful of starships that were due to leave the station were ordered to depart and clear the area while any incoming vessels were ordered to remain outside the Kaleb system until the storm cleared the area.

“Is the system clear of traffic?” Bremer asked.

"All clear, Admiral," said R'nard.

"Good." Bremer replied, then he looked over to the Science Officer on duty. “What’s the storm’s status?

"Unchanged. It's holding course and speed with a slow rate of dissipation. The station and the planet will see minor affects." Gilmore replied.

“Is it still on course to clear the area by 0230 hours tomorrow?” Mike asked.

"Yes sir." Gilmore replied.

Satisfied, Mike walked over to where T’Lar was standing, watching the holographic display in the middle of Ops, tracking the storm’s trajectory. “Are you planning to attend the dedication ceremony?”

Deela looked over at Mike, "Yes I am. I would not miss it for the world."

Mike smirked, “I guess it’s not every day that a monument is dedicated in your honor.”

The residence of Kaleb IV had decided to erect monuments to the defense of the planet in Washington Park within the capital city of New Hampton. One depicting the Federation defense of the planet against the Klingons in 2264 and the other depicting the USS Pegasus, USS Warrior, IKS Gorkon, and 1st Marine Division's defense of the planet during the Pirate attack of 2391

"No, it is not. Will the others be attending?" Deela asked.

“The Warrior is currently in the Alpha Quadrant, at Denobula dropping off a Denobulan science team and enjoying a little shore leave. The Gorkon is QonoS wrapping up an overhaul.” Mike replied. "I haven't heard from Starfleet Command or the Federation Council if they are sending representatives."

Deela nodded in response.

A moment later, several consoles started to beep.

“That’s odd, I’m picking up minor traces of chronometric partials emanating from the trailing edge of the ion storm.” Roebuck reported from the Tactical Two station. He then looked over to Lokran and made sure he had the same data on his display at Tactical One.

R'nard looked over and nodded.

“Tactical Astrometrics to Ops, our long range sensors are having trouble, resolution seems to be off, we’re picking up ships where there shouldn’t be any, and others are missing from where they should be.” Draven reported over the comm.

“Gillo, boost post to the long range sensors, and see if the ion storm is having that effect or if we’re looking at another issue here.”

"Aye sir." Was all that Holly managed to say before her hands automatically started moving over the controls in front of her. Everything came to her like second nature now and so it came to her quickly.

The proximity alert then beeped.

“Now what?” Bremer asked.

“We’ve picked up a ship, a drift, coming out of the tail end of the storm. That ship also seems to be the where the chronometric partials are emanating from.” K’Wor reported from the Strategic Operations / Intelligence position. “Their sensors and engines are totally offline and their life support is damaged.” Pike walked over behind K'Wor and looked over the readings.

“On screen.” Bremer ordered. After a moment, the resolution cleared. “That’s not possible.” Mike said in a quiet tone. The ship continued to drift, as it rotated, the top of the saucer section became clear and Mike read off the number. “N C C 1 7 0 1. The Enterprise?!”

Lee leaned over and touched a couple buttons then turned his head raising an eyebrow "It is correct sir, It would be the Enterprise."

“I’m picking up a general distress call.” De Luca reported from communications.

Mike looked around for a moment. “Open a channel, audio only.”

“To any Federation ship, this is Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise. We were en route to Earth for refit when we encountered an ion storm. Engines and sensors are offline and we’re adrift. Any Federation ship, please respond.”

Mike took a breath. He’d met Kirk before, during the events of the Khitomer Accords, having been sent back in time thanks to Q, but Kirk was a legend and even Mike had to take a moment before he replied. “Starship Enterprise, this is Star…a Federation Starbase. You’re ship just appeared on our sensors, coming out of a passing ion storm and is clearly off course. Please stand by, we’re sending a tug to pull you in.” Mike made a motion to close the channel.

“Gillo, shut down the docking bay’s lighting except for the approach lights and docking bay thirty-four’s lighting. Adjust the lighting so if any of the Enterprise crew members look out a window, they won’t see any modern ships. Lokran, lock down the observation lounges that can overlook bay thirty-four as well as limit access to bay thirty-four itself. Gilmore, set up one of the secure holodecks as a medical bay from the late 2260s and advise Doctor Hades to be standing by to assist the Enterprise’s medical staff in case they need to transfer any injured for treatment. Also call Mister Fintel up here.” Mike paused as he watched the automated tug close in on the Enterprise, lock a tractor beam on, and start towing her.

“T’Lar, Solomon, AmHain, Hades, Fintel, Young, and Gillo you’re with me. We’ll change into era appropriate uniforms and meet our guests. Make sure any repair or medical personnel that we need to assist the Enterprise are from Federation member species that would have been sent in their time. No Klingons, Gorn, Romulans, Bajorians, you get the idea. I’ll ‘demote’ myself to Captain, T’Lar you’ll have to wear Commander bars for now.” Mike smirked. We don’t want to damage the timeline, or give the Enterprise crew any reason to doubt we’re from their future. Pike, you have Ops. Keep an eye on that storm and if it deviates from its course let me know.”

Lee looked at Mike and nodded "I will let you know right away if the storm changes, or anything else on it."

Draven stepped into Ops. “Sir. I ran a few scans of the Enterprise. Judging by the ship’s condition and equipment on board, the crew compliment and what Captain Kirk just said, I believe they are from late 2269. Kirk is about to be promoted to Admiral and Chief of Starfleet Operations, Spock will return to Vulcan to undergo the Kolinahr discipline, McCoy will retire from Starfleet, and the Enterprise herself is about to undergo her major refit the Constitution class saw in the late twenty third century. They’re a little over a year from the V’ger incident."

Mike nodded, it was good information. He then looked back at the crew gathered. “These people are legends, hiding who we really are will only last so long. Keep their sensors down as long as possible, once they scan the area they’ll not only be able to tell where they are, but also when. In 2269, of course this station didn’t exist but the Starfleet facilities on Kalek IV were much smaller and there was no colony. We don’t want to pollute the timeline, so the less time they are here the better. Questions?”

Chloe Said, "No Sir just one question what were the colors of the uniforms in the 23rd century?" she didn't know what color uniform was flight ops.

Mike smirked. "Helm and Navigation wore gold in this era.

"Observation lounges locked down," said R'nard. "Do you want me to take the con here while you go, Admiral? I don't want them to see me, as Tralazars have yet to be found by the Federation in 2269."

Mike nodded, "Yes, help Pike mind the store here." He replied to Lokran. "Pike, have General Jackson station Marines at all docking bay access points and outside of all observation areas, let's keep this visit as low profile and private as possible. Fewer eyes, the better.

Lee nodded again "Yes Sir, I will inform him right away." He then turned around to the console and sent a message to General Jackson informing him of what was going on.

Chloe went to Change into her 23rd century uniform she replicated a gold color uniform with the rank of lieutenant JG on it. An hour later she was ready to meet Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise Chloe felt weird wearing the 23rd century uniform she had read Captain Sisko's Logs from his experience with Captain Kirk. she told ensign Capp" mr Capp your in charge of the flight control department while I am with Admiral Bremer . She said "aye Lieutenant By the you look great in the 23rd century uniform"he said. "thanks ensign." she said then turned to Admiral Bremer "sir just one question I was looking over the Defiant's logs it showed that the crew of the Defiant saved Captain kirk's life why did the crew of the defiant have a slight run in with Captain kirk and the Enterprise?" she asked.

R'nard was watching the sensors while deep in thought. It was too bad that due to his appearance, he couldn't meet the legendary Captain Kirk. He had heard several things about him and the crew of the Enterprise he commanded. Though they were pioneers, their encounters with other races were quite limited. Human-type beings were actually rare in the galaxy, but for the most part, that was what they were familiar with. Humans, Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons, Andorians, and many others. There were a few non-human races they had encountered, like Hortas and a few others, but they hadn't met too many--yet. It was probably because in the area they explored, an ancient race had seeded themselves in those worlds and let them evolve as they would.

He would have a lonely time minding the store here, but somebody had to do it. He breathed as he had been taught at the monastery and helped calm him. Oh, for a friend.
