Mission: Mission 75 - Time of Change
Location: Tactical Astrometerics, USS Pegasus-B, enroute to SB400
Timeline: Moments after Smith's, SD: 64738.1

ON:

Mike watched as everyone filtered into the open room. Once everyone was present, Mike stepped forward.

"Good afternoon. First, I want everyone to know that Lieutenant General Bremer has been recovered safely by the crew of the USS Cairo. She'll be back in a week or so, Starfleet Command wants to debrief her."

Mike paused a moment...

"Now, I know we were all hoping to get a little rest, but that might have to wait. On Stardate 647327.1, the Hobas star exploded into a supernova. At 0224 hours yesterday, the Romulan sun destabilized and exploded destroying both Romulus and Remus. We do not know the casualty figures, and the Romulans are refusing aid from us."

Mike paused to let that bit of news sink in. Even though it was the Romulans, it was still tragic nonetheless.

"To further complicate matters, the Romulans have reformed their Typhon Pact alliance with the Gorn, Tholians, Breen, The Holy Order of Kinshaya, and Tzenkethi. While The Order, Tzenkethi, and even Breen are far enough away from Starbase 400 to not be much of an issue, I still want to keep an eye on them. However, the Tholians, Gorn, and of course Romulans are very close by. While Starfleet isn't expecting any incursions into Federation space, we need to keep an extra eye on them."

Mike paused again, giving everyone time to process all the information.

"I'd like to introduce Captain Ryan Greenwood of the USS Avenger (Defiant). He's been assigned as my Chief of Staff and he's had recent dealings with the Gorn. He'll bring everyone up to speed on them. Furthermore, part of his job is to keep an eye on them, ship movements, etc. Captain Andrews will continue to do the same regarding the Romulans. Commander Winter, I'd like for you to get up to speed with the Tholians, anything Starfleet Intel has on them. The three of you will work closely with Captain Mark and Commander Pike. Gather all the intel you can, using whatever resources you need."

The five men all nodded to each other, and back at Mike.

Bremer then continued, "On a slightly more, personal level...Ambassador Spock has been reported missing in the area of Romulus."

Captain K'Temoc spoke up quickly, "Ambassador Spock is dead...?"

Mike replied, "Starfleet doesn't know. Apparently he was in the area trying to save the Romulan sun, but failed. He was able to keep the supernova from continuing on, so he saved many other worlds, including Kaleb IV and Starbase 400 itself. According to Starfleet, the Enterprise-E was in the area, assisting the Ambassador. She took major damage and in enroute here..." Mike paused "...to be decommissioned and for Captain Picard to retire."

The chatter in the room picked up. Many of SB400's Senior Staff knew Captain Picard or other members of the Enterprise's Command Crew like Commander Worf and Commander La Forge, and the Enterprise was the most well known ship in Starfleet. Her decommissioning was a surprise to all.

Mike continued a few moments later, "All right...a little brighter news, let me also introduce to you Vice Admiral Michael Stryfe, our new Chief Diplomatic Officer, he's brought his command, the USS Alabama (Ambassador) along. He's going to try to work on the Romulan, Gorn, Tholian issue through diplomatic channels...see if they will talk to us at all. He's also going to be speaking with Federation member worlds in the region to get them prepared incase relations go south."

Mike paused yet again to give everyone a chance to acknowledge Stryfe.

"While we have been away, Admiral Nakamura reassigned the USS Lexington and USS Intrepid. To fill the void, I've been able to get the USS Vanguard (Sovereign) reassigned to SB400, and have the USS Kearsarge (Intrepid), USS Laffey (Defiant), and USS Tripitz (Excelsior) assigned to the station. Lastly, a promotion and position change. First, Captain Weatherlight is going to be taking over as the R&D Director for SB400 and command of the USS Vanguard. Also, Mr. Smith has been promoted to Lieutenant Commander. Congratulations gentlemen."

Mike again paused giving everyone a moment to congratulate Smith and Weatherlight.

"All right, that's it for now. We'll arrive at the station in eight hours, so get some rest while you can. Dismissed."

As everyone broke up into small groups Mike saw Harrison with her arms crossed heading for the door.

"Captain Harrison." Mike called after her. As she turned around, Mike walked over to her. "Alex I want to apologize to you for not telling you what was going on fully. Only a few people could be told because of the sensitive nature and I needed you to focus on protecting the ship and the crew's safety." Mike waited for her to reply.
