Mission: Episode 94 - Return to Rashanar
Location: Starbase 400, Promenade
Timeline: MD4 1330 'Current'

ON:

As soon as Andre and Dalenna got onto the Starbase, they parted company and he posted a request to see Admiral Bremer. He then sat down at a cafe on the promenade and waited.

Mike had finished up his meeting with Doctor Hades and headed for the Promenade. Mike passed Tom Vercetti and a woman, Sage he thought her name was, hurrying away from 'Good Fellas' and Mike made a mental note to ask Tom about it later.

He arrived at one of the little Cafe's on the Promanade and saw DaSilvor sitting there. "Captain, you asked to meet?"

The Admiral arrived without Andre noticing, so he quickly stood while the Admiral took a seat, "Yes Admiral. I saw the station news this morning and I will am concerned."

Mike motioned toward the seat DaSilvor had been sitting in as he took a seat too and laid a PADD on the table. "What's on your mind?"

Andre took his seat and once seated looked across at the Admiral, "In our last mission Colonel Hurd, went rogue on me and disobeyed direct orders. Yet, he has now been promoted to General. By his own admission he would have shot any officer who disobeyed him the way he disobeyed me. I was expecting a disciplinary at the very least. But this undermines my authority as an officer and Captain. How am I supposed to maintain the respect of officers who serve under me, when someone has shown a blatant disregard for my orders and to all intents and purposes has been rewarded for it?"

Mike took a deep breath. "I have read your after action report, as well as his and several others. The one from Major Lennox was very...detailed." He held up the PADD. "To be honest with you, the promotion had already been submitted prior to the mission and approved while you were away. I promise you, a reprimand has been placed in his file. I plan to have a discussion with him myself as soon as time allows, and it will cover obliging orders."

Mike took a breath and asked a waiter to bring him a mug of raktijno. Once he had the cup, he continued. "I do understand his personal feelings in this, but a chain of command must be followed." This coming from someone who had disobeyed orders and broke the chain of command before so he was at least a little sympathetic to Hurd's and DaSilvor's situations...but that was another conversation for another time.

"At this point, other than chewing his ass and putting something in his records, I can have General Jackson re-stress all of this to him again too. If General Hurd expects his Officers to follow him, he needs to demonstrate he can follow orders too." Mike took a sip of the Klingon coffee and waited to see if DaSilvor had anything else to add.

Andre understood that the promotion would stand, but felt he had to add a couple more points, "If he had gone unchecked and destroyed those pirates we would have lost everything they had scavanged from our ships, including the Paris Island. It was only the fact that he had left his comm circuit open and Major McMicheals action that allowed the situation to be controlled. BTW Admiral, I hope the Major gets recognition for what he did there. He took a big risk".

Andre took a sip of his own coffee and continued, "I can't add anything further, other than to reiterate the problem it causes not just me, but all commanding officers on the Station. Everyone is now going to be second guessing whether he will follow orders, or just the ones he agrees with. Or worse, others may decide to take a leaf out of the Generals book and see if they can get promotion the same way." Andre decided to shut up before he got angry. So he took another sip from his coffee and put the cup down.

Mike nodded, he understood all too well. "Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will send out a message to everyone aboard the station that insubordination or blatant disregarding of orders will not be tolerated."

Mike took another sip, then changed the subject. "There is another matter I want to talk with you about. I told you when you came aboard that I wanted you to be able to help train flight controllers. I'd like to expand on that."

Andre was glad of the change of subject, "Go on, Admiral. please."

"We all know tensions are rising between the Federation Alliance and the Typhon Pact. I want Starbase 400 and the Ares Operational Theater ready. I've asked Admiral Ward to take the position of Training and Development Coordinator here on the station. I'd like you to be his right hand man, Senior Training Officer. You'll help develop and oversee training programs for all departments, all officers, non-comms, and enlisted personnel." Mike replied, then took a drink.

"While the relief group is in the Delta Quadrant, Ward and yourself will have time to meet, discuss ideas, and make plans. Vice Admiral K'Temoc will be in command of the station while Admiral T'Lar and I am away and he'll be coordinating the joint
Starfleet/Klingon/Cardassian/Free Romulan/C’hakilian maneuvers conducted
out of Starbase 400." Mike added, then finished his drink. "I'll have everything sent to you before we depart next week."

Andre nodded over the rim of his cup, "That sounds like something to get my teeth into, Admiral. Thank you for having faith in me to do it." He paused for a moment before adding, "I accept of course, Admiral".

Mike nodded with a smile. "I just want us all to be ready in-case this...cold war turns hot. The Dominion War was nearly twenty years ago now, most of our junior officers and enlisted have no idea what might be coming." Mike's expression turned more serious.
